Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), poised to announce a White House bid, got a taste of the intense vetting that will take place in a presidential campaign. The Wednesday edition of the Washington Post ran a Page 1 story about Obama's drug use -- pot and cocaine -- under the headline, "Effect of Obama's Candor Remains to Be Seen."
Obama wrote about trying cocaine in high school and using pot in his memoir, Dreams of My Father, published after he finished law school. Drug use was not an issue in his 2004 Illinois Senate race, either in the primary or general election.
Obama returns to Washington today after staying largely out of the spotlight for a few weeks, spending the holidays with his family in his native Hawaii. In his absence, Obama's team has been organizing a presidential campaign -- from the field to finance -- to be ready once he makes it official, expected sometime this month.

Nah, people will like this. Just like every guy who ever had an affair sympathized with Bill Clinton, every guy who has ever done blow is going to sympathize with Obama. It'll probably get him votes.

What about goody-two-shoes like me who never did windowpane, blotter, brown-clear dexies, black beuties, Thai stick, Acapulco gold, Panama red, Rorer714s, opiated hash, peyote, those foul-tasting mushrooms, or any of that other stuff that other people did? We certainly won't give Barack Hussein Obama a pass.

Anyone know where Obama went to high school?
I'm wondering because if he went to high school in Hawaii, him getting into cocaine was more than a peer pressure/easy access thing. Smoking pot or drinking beer would fall into that category but not cocaine.
I don't see how any of this matters. Who cares what drugs, if any he may have done years ago. It's irrelevant.
I'll patiently wait on all of those who thought the same regarding Bush's DUI decades ago to flame me.

Heck all he needs to do is remark that he hasn't taken any drugs for the past 25 years and refuse to answer any other questions from then on. Many on FR accepted that excuse then so why not now?
If the issue gets too hot for him, he may have to check into rehab for a week. It's still early enough in the campaign. A week off shouldn't hurt and all will be forgiven.
