Scientists Say NJ Object Is Meteorite
Friday January 5, 2007 11:16 PM
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A mysterious rocklike object that crashed through the roof of a home and landed in the bathroom was a meteorite, experts said Friday.
For now, scientists are calling the dense metallic object ``Freehold Township'' after the place where it fell. It's about the size of a golf ball but weighs about 13 ounces, as much of a can of soup. Magnets held near it are attracted to it.
Rutgers University geologists Jeremy Delaney, Gail Ashley and Claire Condie and Peter Elliott, an independent metallurgist who studied the object, determined it was an iron meteorite because of its density, magnetic properties, markings and coloration.
It belongs to the family whose home was hit, but it is being kept for now in a secure location, according to Freehold Township police.
Police have not released the name of the homeowner nor identified the neighborhood where the home is located, but have said the object bounced off bathroom tiles and embedded in a wall.

So when's the big one going to land on Trenton, heh heh.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that witnesses heard a sound emanating from the sky just before the meteorite struck. "It sounded a lot like somebody yelled, 'Fore,'" one witness said.
A meteorite?! I am shocked!
Now if it would take out Camden, that would be a different story.
did anyone see what was thought to be the meteor shower the other night that turned out to be a rocket burning up as it reentered the atmosphere? I saw a piece of it shoot across the sky- I thought it was a meteor until I saw the news- it was really cool- had a long fire trail and went across the sky nice and slow- had a real good view of it http://sacredscoop.com
Ebay.
NJ muslims flocked to worship.
We see those now and then over Fairbanks. They come out of the west headed low and slow more or less directly east. For color they often have orange, sometimes green and have bright knots along the trail (very long trail). They are Russian booster rockets that reach low orbit, usually second stage, and return to earth in a day or so.
It's time for Buckaroo Banzai to go into action.
Before taxes.
yeah this one went from north to south-ish- maybe south-west-ish- but yeah it was low and slow- really cool to watch
