The following is a non-paid public service announcement for my fellow CT Freepers, particularly those in and around the Hartford area.
Ladies and Gents, seeing how the New Haven chapter had their get-together shortly before Christmas, and we left the Hartford chapter kinda hanging up in the air, when are we going to have our brew 'n chew?
Anyone have any ideas as to where we can meet? John Harvard's in Manchester is a good spot (they make their own beer on the premises...mmmm....).
Date? When is a good time for everyone (or most everyone)?
Time? I would assume that some time after work (~6:00 or so?) would be good. Let me know!
(BTW, all CT Freepers are invited as well as some of you Southern Massachusetts Freepers.)
PING THE CT FREEPER LIST!

Connecticut ping!
Thanks, Andonius_99.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
Pinging a few Rhode Island FRiends...
I know you all are pretty far from Hartford, CT, but pinging you anyway... :o)
Forget getting a place in Manchester. I have too many clients who think I'm on the up-n-up. If I'm going to get arrested with a bunch of rowdies, I'd prefer a town where they don't know me, like Wethersfield or "Black Eyed Sally's" in Hartford.
Can't be around the airport either. All the arrests there go to Enfield and my ex-partner is the Judge in G.A. 13. He won't hear any of our arrests so we would have to go to Rockville or Hartford, and you would not want that. Of course, we could all pledge to be on our best behavior.....nah, let's find an out of the way place where we can be our regular obnoxious selves.
How about the Buckland Hills Mall area of or if not that area, Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield. In other places, the downtown Hartford area or even downtown Mainstreet, East Hartford, CT area. Just a few ideas.
Remember East Hartford, CT is home of "the Rent" or Rectcheler Football Field!
Macaroni Grill in Manchester/Buckland Hills or West Hartford. Great food and great prices.
Buckland Hills would allow Mass Freepers to take Rte 84 easily to the resturant.
North of Hartford we can vote for Olive Garden in Enfield or something else near the malls.
Dakota's on the Silas Deane would be a good idea, too.
thats very kind of you Nutmeg!
I'll have to pass on the invite though. Hope you are rooting for the PATS this weekend!
Thanks for getting this started!
Have to be a Friday so I don't have to get up for work ;-D
John Harvard's is good for me.
How about January 26 (Friday)?
Keep me advised.
For various reasons I missed all of the get-togethers this year.
I would be willing to make a trip to Hartford, or there abouts.
I'm up for anything around the Hartford area.
I'd miuch refer a John Harvards or Black Eyed Sally's vs. a big chain like Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill.
Some other ideas:
J Timothy's Tavern, Plainville -- big tavern-style, they handle groups well.
Murphy & Scarletti's, Farmington -- right off exit 39
(I-84), lots of parking, good scene, live music Tues - Sat nights: http://www.murphyandscarlettis.com/calendar/calendar.asp
First & Last, Hartford -- old school red sauce joint
Corner Pug, West Hartford -- pub fare, popular with locals
City Steam Brewery Cafe -- never been, but seems like the right feel: http://www.citysteambrewerycafe.com/
I'd vote for Murphy & Scarletti's, but that's because it's around the corner from my place)
I haven't been to Murphy & Scarletti's in a few years, but I used to go to some 'happy hours' there. It always struck me as a VERY LOUD place... couldn't hear yourself think, much less hear the person next to you speak. Is that still the case? If so, I'd rather pass on this place...
I know... same here. :-(
Hope to see you at the Hartford get-together (and hope we can make it as well!). Are you still going to CPAC? We'll be there!
Oh definitely, although I'm not as "die-hard" about football as I am about baseball...
How many days 'til spring training starts? :o)
I live in East Hampton, but commute daily to Sheffield, MA (I know every passing zone on 44 between New Hartford and North Canaan, both directions!) Anything on a weeknight would have to be after 7; Fridays work for me, but make securing a venue more difficult. Love the idea of a brewpub, but ain't that picky. I'll keep an eye on this, very interested.
Yeah, and it seems every time I approach one there is a stream of cars coming the other way. (As I'm stuck behind someone doing 40 in a 50)
I'll be watching as well.
Date: Jan 26, 2007
Time: ~6:00PM
Place (This is where it gets hairy - not the food, just the selections...):
John Harvard's (Manchester)
Black Eyed Sally's (Hartford)
City Steam Brewery (Hartford)
I figured these best fit the kind of place that I think most people would enjoy - I hope. They're nice, but not overly expensive and you don't have to wear a shirt and tie to get in. (and they have beer... :-) ) Maybe we can PING the CT list with this?
Hey, gidget7! PING!
Thanks for the update! I'll re-ping the CT list to your post #23...

Connecticut ping!
Looks like we have a tentative date / time of Friday, January 26, 2007, around 6pm, for our gathering. Please see Andonius_99's post #23.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
Bummer, I have my kids that weekend. Not that I don't want to be with my kids.
John Hartford or Black Eyed Sally's works for me. The only question would be "happy hour" at Black Eyed Sally's. Does anyone know if it is crowded on Friday at that time?
I vote for Black Eyed Sally's. These guys are playing on Jan 26: http://www.jeffpitchell.com/home.aspx
The music wouldn't start until 9:00ish I imagine, so it wouldn't interfere with dinner/drinks. Then those hanging around later can enjoy some blues.
OK, one vote for Black Eyed Sally's? Anyone else? Any votes? (I figure I'll tally votes and see what the majority wants...)
Black Eye Sally's. Also the the Triple A in East Hartford.
That's two for Black Eyed Sally's!
It's a landslide!!
Though it occured to me there might be a music cover charge at Black Eye Sally's, which some folks may not want to pay.
Also, depending on how many we are a reservation might be iffy. They fill up on weekend nights. We ought to have a backup plan of John Harvards.
And what's parking like?
Yikes, I'm convincing myself off of this.
I don't care.
Just tell me where and when and I will show up.
I don't care. You choose. :)
Given parking, reservation ease, and no cover charge - I think John Harvards is the way to go.
Date: January 26, 2007
Time: 6:30
Place: John Harvard's, Manchester, CT
Now, the only thing I need is a head count so I can make the reservation. Mind if I borrow your CT PINGing services yet again? Thanky mucho!

Connecticut ping! (Thanks, Andonius_99)
CT FReepers... Here's the most up-to-date info:

Hubby may show up a bit late, though...
What is John Harvard's like? I've never been there... good food?
"zelig" and I plan to be there... hope you can make it as well.
I never even heard of it.
be there or be square
It's a brew pub. They have a somewhat small menu, but I've never had a bad meal there and their beer is phenomenal. Also, it has a really nice atmosphere - quiet, but not too quiet, ya know? Good place, though.
Oh, I'll be there! :)

Andonius_99 - Count me in. I'm not definite, but at least reserve a spot for me.
kickstart - Are you in?
Sounds good to me. I'll be there.
I haven't been up to your neck of the woods for a while.
Thanks, Andonius. Sounds good... count me and zelig ("Mr. nutmeg") in, please.
This place is near Buckland Hills Mall, across the street from COMP USA, right?
