terrorists and their sympathizers allegedly moved south toward the border with Kenya to escape.

Air Force AC-130 gunships struck al Qaeda targets in Somalia Jan. 8, news sources reported last night. Gunships, plural. One will ruin your whole life, two ...
Yeehaw
Lots of Al Qaeda got to meet their god, but no virgins for them, just a rather "warm" reception.

Avenging Black Hawk Down.
Back in 1993, the US Forces were "fighting to the oldies", sound track blaring to the staccato blasts from machine gun fire.
This time, a rapid-fire laser-aimed aerial gun platform comes whipping in, placing highly accurate bursts in defined targets, with devastating results.
Bet they're sorry now, they got the Americans all steamed up.

It is interesting.
We on FR have been following raw news of the conflict in Somalia for a couple of weeks.
FoxNews and the other MSM seem to have just found the story the last couple of days.
No wonder the MSM detest the unfiltered Internet.

"Due to rapidly developing events in Somalia, U.S. Central Command has tasked USS Dwight D. Eisenhower to join USS Bunker Hill, USS Ramage, USS Anzio and USS Ashland to support ongoing maritime security operations off the coast of Somalia," said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown, a spokesman for 5th Fleet in Bahrain.
The ships will stop vessels and search them for al Qaeda terrorists attempting to escape from Somalia, officials said.
Press reports said the AC-130 attacks hit an area called Ras Kamboni, a heavily forested area near the Kenyan border. The area is allegedly a terror training base. Press reports said there were casualties in the area, and Somali officials said they had captured 28 suspected al Qaeda terrorists.

As I pointed out on the first thread to report this, I am immensely gratified: as the FR archives will show, I was advocating deployment of AC-130H's in support of the Ethiopians from the moment they went in.

Not C-130s, but AC-130s. I've seen it done, its possible.

The AC-130 was requested by, but DENIED to the US forces(too overt) in '93. Think of the difference that could have made then.

"Avenging Black Hawk Down." It's about time, too. No doubt this mission was successful in part (and not broadcast in advance thereby alerting the terrorists) due to no embedded reporters. (At least I don't think so.) God bless our troops for continued success!

As another freeper said last night:
While the Democrats were home watching a football game, the president was bombing Somalia.
