For the past several days, liberal bloggers have been engineering a "Blogswarm." They are getting hundreds of liberal bloggers to participate in a drill where they are getting advertisers to pull advertising off of conservative radio station KSFO. Mike Stark, who harrassed Senator George Allen during Campaign 2006 is involved in leading the effort.
The charge by the liberal bloggers? That KSFO talkers including pro-troop leader Melanie Morgan engage in "Hate Speech." They're deliberately distorting comments by Morgan (she responded to comments by liberals who targeted the Republicans for defeat in Congress by saying that she and her cohorts could play that game and paint a target on Nancy Pelosi's wide laughing eyes. They now accuse her of making a death threat against Pelosi???!! ( Source: Melanie Morgan on Fox News )
They're now getting the mainstream media to pick this up and carry the water, as they wish to take this issue and replicate it in markets across the country. 2 CBS affiliates today, 2 newspapers, over 500 blogs, and they are pushing their hardest to make this bigger and bigger. Media Matters is leading the charge.
The message: NO CORPORATE SPONSORS FOR CONSERVATIVE TALK.
On their blogs they point out that political momentum is on their side and they can now push for Congress to restore the Fairness Doctorine in broadcasting.
You can read their blogs - they are trying to take Melanie Morgan and her conservative compatriots at KSFO off the air. And next stop will be your local conservative radio talkers. Melanie Morgan won the Associated Press's Mark Twain Journalism Award for Best Special Program when she broadcast live interviews with the troops in Iraq. If they can manage to take her out, then no conservative talker is safe from this intimidation campaign.

And anyone who was found guilty of treason should receive the specified penalty (which is up to death). And they both explained that they would support such a penalty for someone such as Bill Keller of the New York Times who REPEATEDLY undermined the war effort, knowingly and deliberately, by publishing classfied documents on terrorist wiretapping and terrorist finance tracking.)

You pointed out the key point there. The liberals don't care if the money is taken off of KSFO and put on KGO. They want the ad dollars off of conservative programs to shut them down.
The whole routine they are doing about Disney and ABC being fascists is that they are furious that Melanie, Lee and Brian weren't already fired. It's the same drill as the Path to 9/11 when they made ABC to be out to be a right-wing television network that spreads lies and propaganda because Bill Clinton was afraid he'd face some of the blame for the growth of Islamic terrorist networks.
Perhaps we should call these vendors and tell them that if they don't start advertising, we will stop using their products?

You have morning drive and evening drive there. That's the big target audience for most advertisers, but they are pulling their ad dollars off the station altogether, not just one program.
Liberals were also mad at the Sinclair network for running the Kerry documentary before the election, and tried to shut that down. They're probably also retaliating for the loss of Air America by trying to take down a conservative talker in a tit-for-tat.
I think businesses do care somewhat because they can't guarantee that money that leaves KSFO will go to KGO.
As I posted in a thread last week, I think it's more likely that some people will try to break up and sell off the AM radio networks (like ABCRadio selling its stations) as a way to break up the national syndications of shows like Limbaugh and Hannity, while simultaneously removing platforms for local talkers like Morgan. That market-based approach might be easier and less politically dangerous than trying to reinstall the fairness doctrine. Just like when KRON was sold to Young Broadcasting, if ABCRadio sells KSFO to a religious group (like AM 610 did), then Premier has to find a new station to run Limbaugh and Hannity in the Bay Area.

How do liberal kooks have the cash to intimidate US companies financially??? Don't you need a job to have money?
KSFO is running Dr. Laura from 12-3, and the Hannity rerun from 3-6, then live local (Sussman) from 6-8, Levin rerun from 8-10, then Coast-to-Coast twice until 5:00AM. I usually switch to Sacramento KSTE (650) from 12:00PM-6:00PM to get the live Hannity and Savage (who is on KNEW 910 locally).
So, there is really very little local live on KSFO during the week. On weekends, the morning are live local non-politics, Laping and Gold are live remote, and only Simpson is live local from 4:00PM-7:00PM.
That makes for a total of 30 hours (Rodgers & Morgan, Sussman) of live local political talk during weekdays (25%), 6 hours (Simpson) of live local weekend (12.5%), and 6 hours (Lapin, Gold) of remote local weekend for political talk.

Unfortunately, would make it so much harder to reach the people they need to reach since the diehard fans like most of us here would follow them, and people just skimming the dials would never be informed, which is exactly what they are after.

I demand that Senator Allen fire the staffers who beat up a constituent attempting to use his constitutional right to petition his government. I also want to know why Senator Allen would want his staffers to assault someone asking questions about matters of public record in the heat of a political campaign. Why are his divorce records sealed? Why was he arrested in the 1970s? And why did his campaign batter me when I asked him about these questions.

Corporate advertisers are notoriously skittish and recoil from controversy. Worse, many of them--perhaps most--have a liberal slant to begin with.

Just wait for the liberal bloggers to get more media to report this story. They will demonize the conservative talkers and Melanie Morgan in the same way they managed to taint John Bolton (an American hero) as a vicious, violent thug.
Remember one of the chief accusers in the John Bolton matter was Melody Townsel of Daily Kos. They ran that drill in part through Daily Kos and they are doing the same thing here again with Mike Stark at Daily Kos and the far-left gang over at Media Matters.
KSFO is also the flagship radio station of the Oakland Raiders. That's two strikes, libs!!!
Becasue even in the Bay Area, we (Raider fans) are considered second class citizens, lower than pond scum. Conservatives are the most hated in the Bay Area, and Raider fans are probably a close second.

Whereas some of the liberal bloggers just despise conservatives and want to fight what they see to be "hate speech," (from an ideological standpoint) Mike Stark and the Media Matters (David Brock, et. al) crowd view this as part of the war for them to win the political war. They view talk radio as one of the strong points of conservative/Republican success and they are determined to dismantle it (especially since competing with it via Air America, Jones Radio Network, etc... didn't work).
Reading through all these blogs and their plotting about the various strategies available to them it's a bit sickening. I don't know what depresses me more, to see how low they'll sink to win, or the fact that I have to acknowledge that they *do* enjoy the momentum for the moment, and it is feeding their efforts to knock down conservatism and any footholds it has in this country. I can see how motivated their people are, and I'm worried that there aren't enough people on "our" side with such motivation to fight back and hold the line.
