ARBIL, Iraq, Jan 11 (Reuters) - U.S. forces raided an Iranian government representative's office in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil early on Thursday and made a number of arrests, Iraq's state television and a Kurdish station reported.

There was no immediate comment on the reports of a U.S. raid in Arbil from the American military.

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's foreign ministry on Thursday summoned the Iraqi and Swiss envoys to Tehran over the detention of five Iranian staffers at a diplomatic mission in northern Iraq, state-run television reported.

The broadcast said the ministry had summoned the ambassadors and "demanded an explanation" about the incident. Switzerland represents American interests in Iran, where there is no U.S. embassy.

The summons followed an early morning raid in Iraq, where multinational forces stormed the building of an Iranian consulate in the Kurdish-controlled northern city of Irbil, 220 miles from Baghdad.

The troops detained the five staffers and confiscated computers and documents, according to local Kurdish officials in Irbil.

It didn't take long for the folks in Irbil to contact Reuters, AP and the BBC!

At that hour there would have been no chance for resistance. Much safer for our guys and the information will be obtained with no loss of American or coaltion life.

Switzerland?! What, was it a choice between them and France?

Are you sure it was Gregory? I thought it was Major Garrett.
I am not used to Gregory asking questions other than to make derogatory comments about the President.

I could have swore it was the annoying Gregory who is the President's official critic in the Press Gallery. If I am incorrect, then I apologize but I thought it was Gregory.

remember, mistakes are always made in war..and these days, with the media and the world against us...it will happen. I do think the gloves are off and its time to clean house. Iran has been put on notice and we are going to fight this war, the way is should be fought...HARD! Our men and women need to be unleashed, they are incredible human beings and fight better when their hands aren't tied. God Bless all of them!

After the last Iranian arrest I heard that Maliki warned Iran that their involvement is over and he took their word on it that it was and allowed the released of their "invited diplomats". Maliki has been played like a fiddle by Iran and Syria and I think he just finally figured it out and is not all too pleased by it. I doubt these "diplomats" will be released anytime soon.
