I was reading a study a few years back that revealed that after a few years, lottery winners are more unhappy, on average, than lottery players that do not win. The money brings a whole new set of problems.

Not that I wouldn't mind trying to solve them, mind you...

I have a friend who says that the first thing he would do if he won the lottery is sell the ticket, for 50 cents on the dollar, just so he could remain anonymous.

I have another friend who buys the same numbers over and over, and destroys the tickets immediately. He is so relieved to find out that he did not win every time the numbers are pulled, it's worth the money.

If thieves steal money from your bank account, it's the bank's problem.

Gambling... this is why I vote against it year after year.

You vote against gambling because Jack Whittaker is a moron?

He gets $113 million after taxes and then goes to a casino? To do what? What an idiot. Makes me think God slapped him down.

>A man beset by problems since winning a record lottery jackpot says he can't pay a settlement to a casino worker because thieves cleaned out his bank accounts.<

You mean nobody told him never to reply to Nigirian princesses needing help?

I think gambling was but one of his problems.

" I'd just flat up and disappear to a castle hidden within a remote Western US mountain range."

And cruise around with a babe in the navigator seat of a Lamborghini Countach? Get a red one. That's a car that any woman would die to navigate in. Very fast, dual exhaust, geared high. Built to order by a bunch of Italians that know what they are doing. Not cheap.

I think there's a very important moral to this tale that any future lottery winner would do well to heed...and that lesson is that if this guy had just let me take care of his money he'd have far more of it left than he does now....

"... And cruise around with a babe in the navigator seat of a Lamborghini Countach?"

That outdated old whip? No, no... Not as a primary vehicle anyway. I might have one onhand just as a collector's item, but there's far better exotics out there. I'm thinking more along the lines of Bugatti, Bentley, Saleen, an ultra high-end Porsche or whatever turns up. Maybe a Ferrari Enzo or a 959 if I can locate one.

I really won't be doing a lot of driving anyway, so it hardly matters. I could get by in a Toyota Prius.

Why John Kerry thinks he needs to be a Senator is beyond my comprehension, at least for me considering his position. He's got everything he could possibly want, so he must be pretending he's Santa Claus for the needy with our money. It's just a hobby to him. He couldn't possibly genuinely care, could he?

First people want wealth,
Then they want fame
Then they want privacy
Then they want power

"It's hard to imagine that people blow all the money and end up destitute, but it is more common than not."

The lottery only temporarily makes millionaires of the poor. Eventually the poor who win remind us why they were poor in the first place.

With that kind of money, the 1st thing I would do is hire a lawyer and an investment advisor. The lawyer would pick up the money and protect me and the investment advisor would tell me where to put it. About 30% aggressive, 40% dividends, and 30% conservative. Go fishing and a Bambi hunting vacation for a while before getting serious. I haven't lost at craps for 14 years. That would be fun with white chips. I drink only Pepsi while playing that game.

LOL....I see you have it all planned out, just in case. I think I've bought 3 lottery tickets in my entire life, when there were outrageously huge sums up for grabs. For me, that one dollar investment was not so much a "chance," to win money as it was the opportunity to dream about the (ridiculously unlikely) possibilities. IMHO, having two or three days leading up to the drawing where you can think about how you'd spend it is well worth dropping the dollar just to get a better idea of what kind of person you truly are....

Then why did I happen to ride in a brand new Countach a few months ago? Those are built to order by the factory if you can afford the contract.

Only stupid people win lotteries.

If you don't place the safety and security of your family and yourself above fame and showing off, you will regret ever winning.

If you haven't spent AT LEAST 3 months planning for your safety and security BEFORE CLAIMING YOUR WINNINGS, you are making a big mistake.

You can have a lot of fun with one of those "dollar bookmarks."

I've decided that I'm going to move Katrina refugees into all the houses around a liberal co-worker.
