Savage has it Wrong.

I know this is going to bring out howling condemnation from many, but Savage has it all wrong. For conservatism to flourish we can’t concentrate on the circumstances of ones birth as the “Borders, Language, and Culture” argument would imply. We have to judge people as individuals and either accept or reject them based upon the decisions they make and the values they demonstrate. That is the message that America has given the world since our experiment began.

The values I embrace are founded in a reverence of a Christian God, a dedication to family and community, and a willingness to sacrifice for these things. Freedom is God given, but there is no birth right to it. Freedom is something that has to be fought for and worked for on a daily basis. This is my America.

I do not my America inside our borders with Liberals who otherwise speak the same language and share a national history with me. I do find my America in the guy who is comes to this country destitute as my ancestors did, ignoring and overcoming all obstacles, willing to walk across hundreds of miles of dangerous desert to find hard, manual labor. I don’t find my America in those who demand or give larger government entitlements taken from the sweat of someone else’s brow. I find my America in the guy who lives in privation so that he can send the money to his family to better their condition. I don’t find my America in “Dual Income, No Kids” couples or in those who put career ahead of the nurturing and raising of decent, well adjusted families. I find my America in those who attend mass as a family every Sunday. I do not find my America in those who have no God other than a socialist ideal or hedonism. I find my America in those who wear the uniform and who are willing to fight and die for our ideals. I do not find my America in those who dodge their obligations, who fail to serve because they were not compelled and those who actively oppose defending our country when it is threatened.

In short, I welcome the influx of Mexicans into America because I believe it will result in a better America. They serve honorably and courageously in numbers far greater than their demographics would warrant. They are generally law abiding, socially conservative, hard working family and community oriented. I would exchange them for native born liberals and faux conservatives any day.

"In short, I welcome the influx of Mexicans into America because I believe it will result in a better America."

You do? Even if they came here illegally?

I don't welcome them or any other criminals.

You certainly seem to be concentrating on the "Culture" aspect of "BLC".

You actually make good points that conservative culture should be promoted. No disagrement there.

But do you practice open borders in your home? Can anyone walk in off the street and become NL's new roommate?

Also, you don't mention the "Language" part? Savage sees a danger in promoting multiple languages through ballots, govt documents, etc. Do you share this concern?

I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

"Freedom is God given, but there is no birth right to it. "

If freedom is 'God given' then of course it's a 'birth right'.

"I don't welcome them or any other criminals.

I'm sure that's because you never drive over the speed limit, never cut corners on your taxes, never listened to illegally downloaded music, and have never brought office supplies home from work.

So two wrongs make a right?

So if I break a speed law then it's ok for illegals to enter the U.S.?

I don't think so.

Mild disinterest here.

I'm mightily aggrieved by the lassitudinous state of your inquisitiveness and condemn your apathy.

Sincerely,

If I may dust off this old chestnut "Many of my best friends are Hispanic." And waving the wand to make the illegals official doesn't bother me because we can use their help in repelling the muslim Hordes. But Jeez man we gotta know who's coming across our border.

[ Savage has it Wrong. ]

So true.. Savage misses that conservatives are mostly socialists.. And conservatism is democractic(Mob Rule) with just as many mobsters as democrats have...

Savage is way too nice to conservatives..
Savage is in denial somewhat.. but he has glimpses of lucidity..
And sees conservative socialism for what it is.. occasionally..

We have to judge people as individuals and either accept or reject them based upon the decisions they make and the values they demonstrate.

If a person enters the country illegally, I can determine, with 100% accuracy, that they have broken the law. Their decision to break the law makes them as a criminal. The value that they have demonstrated is that American laws are optional and that their legal relativism has no place in our society.

If a person enters the country legally (via legal immigration or work permit), then we've gained the opportunity to judge them appropriately.

Contemporary Catholic Understanding
The Roman Catholic Church continues to hold the view of natural law set forth by Thomas Aquinas, particularly in his Summa Theologiae, and often as filtered through the School of Salamanca. This view is also shared by some Protestant churches.[citation needed]

They understand human beings to consist of body and mind, the physical and the non-physical (or soul perhaps), and that the two are inextricably linked. Humans are capable of discerning the difference between good and evil because they have a conscience. There are many manifestations of the good that we can pursue. Some, like procreation, are common to other animals, while others, like the pursuit of truth, are inclinations peculiar to the capacities of human beings." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_law

Life in Mexico can be nasty, brutish and short, Natural law; I'll stick to USC Title 8 (and I wish the president and Congress would, as well) but thanks for the sermon.

IMHO, the problem with this debate on both sides is legal and illegal immigration are lumped into one.
