Sen. Dodd Calls for the Removal of the Confederate Flag from South Carolina's Statehouse Grounds

(Greenville-AP) January 14, 2007 - US Senator Christopher Dodd calls Sunday for the removal of the Confederate flag that flies at the South Carolina Statehouse. The Connecticut Democrat was attending a Martin Luther King Junior memorial event at a Greenville church Sunday night.

He says black and white young people from South Carolina are fighting under one flag in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dodd says the Confederate flag belongs in a museum.

Dodd will be at the King Day at the Dome rally at the Statehouse Monday. The event was started six years ago as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People launched economic sanctions against South Carolina to force the flag from the Capitol dome.

It was moved from there and put out front at the Confederate Soldier Monument on Statehouse grounds.

This infuriates me!! Chris Dodd can forget about running for President. He needs to go back to Connecticut and deal with their problems rather than trying to dredge up trouble in SC. This act of stupidity speaks for itself..he is not even fit to be in the Senate. Anyone who tries to stir up racial strife should be exposed for the idiots they are. The man has no credibility and is completely lacking in integrity. Perhaps he and Ted Kennedy are more in their element when they are drunk and sexually harassing waitresses. Just another example of Democrats never accepting the responsibility for their actions nor paying the consequences they demand of others. Not all, but most of the leadership in the Dem. Party are hypocrites of monumental proportions.

It's amazing how Presidential hopefuls shoot themselves in the foot. In Dodd's effort to kiss up to the black vote, he just lost the white southern vote. Southern folk don't appreciate Yanks interferring in their business. Not that Dodd had a chance, but nonetheless, it makes you wonder what in the world he was thinking.

Looks to me like a win for all around. Folks in Connecticut get the benefit of having the piece of trash laying around in someone else's back yard. The nation benefits by having him busy with his "presidential campaign". The folks in South Carolina get the fun of running a snipe hunt for the yankee with no brains. The confederate flag will secure it's place in South Carolina forever, rather than have some pompous yankee be the cause of it's removal.

Far as I can tell, the only losers are the idiots who contribute money to this scam of a campaign, which everybody, including the candidate and staff who are lining their pockets with contributions, knows is a non-starter.

Of course, anyone stupid enough to give money to this guy would have lost it in some other way, most likely the "friend from nigeria" type scam.

Fun all around.

You just don't understand. I live on a battleground. The last Mississippi Confederate widow lived three miles from here. Several of my client's fathers served in the Confederate Army. The Northern Army took anything that wasn't nailed down here (Grant's wife took 20 wagon loads of furniture from this town alone) and burned the rest. The people from my county voted against secession and were not slavers but when the Yankees invaded did what they felt correct. Ironic, but the folks from the 1860's were better in touch with what was going on in government than many living today in the US.

"What possible purpose does a Confederate flag serve?"

That decision is rightly up to the states to decide themselves. Are you proposing otherwise? If so, you're not sounding too terribly conservative.

Whether you agree with it or not, it's part of the state's history.

You agree with the NCAA on banning Native American mascots too?

Dodd needs to call Nifong to get some pointers on how to really get the black vote.

Dodd is a perfect example of why so many Southerners consider "damnyankee" to be one word.

Dodd is a tool.

South Carolina will never, ever vote for him and he surely knows this. His comments are made to win the favor of more of his New England leftist ilk who truly hate the Red States.

SEN. Dodd needs to go for a ride with Teddy Kennedy.

Does Chris Dodd refer to NAACP members as colored people or African Americans or Negroes?

I've been confused on that matter for years. Maybe Jesse or Al can straighten this out.

Here's a pic of the flag in question:
That pic was taken during an anti-war counter rally, Aug, 2006.

More pix here.

Dodd is just another fart bubble in the bubble bath we know as the democratic party. Expect more outrageous things to appear as the dems cover their tracks with stupid statements to grab headlines (with the help of the MSM) to hide the remaining 99 1/2 hours of Bela's agenda.

Chrissy Dodo, is the perfect example of a "damn yankee". Visits the south and sh*ts on the carpet of the host.

If he has a problem with that flag, he can get his liberal @$$ back to his blue nose state and stay there.
