My cousin's son is with your son. God bless them both.
Small world! Heard any news from your cousin regarding her son lately?
I was at Norfolk in the 90's when the Stennis was new. There were 3 carriers in port, the Stennis, the Eisenhower, and another I can't recall. (I'm an army guy) It was quite impressive to see 3 carriers side by side in port, although they are much more useful at sea.
Seamen in the exhaust port?
USS John C. Stennis Deploys with Carrier Strike Group 3
-----
How could this happen? I've heard nothing about Pelosi approving this provocative move.
I did four Carriers, they are out of this world!!!!..
That's the best part! She has no say in the matter.
What did you do with the four carriers?
I have a relative serving on board too.
I was a YN with CAG-11/VA-115.
May God provide a stiff breeze to keep your family and the USS Stennis out of harms way.
Isn't the USS Reagan underway as well?
If any of the FReepers on this Tread would like to get a real feeling of what an Aircraft Carrier is like; visit the USS Midway at the foot of Broadway in San Diego, California.

Stennis Awards Top Leaders, Honor Ships Namesake
Story Number: NNS051014-12
Release Date: 10/14/2005 9:45:00 PM
By Journalist 2nd Class Ryan Hill, USS John C. Stennis Public Affairs
ABOARD USS JOHN C. STENNIS (NNS) -- More than 60 officers, chief petty officers, spouses and distinguished visitors assembled at the McCormick Woods Country Club Oct. 6 to honor two leaders from USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
The 10th annual Straight Furrow and Look Ahead honors were presented to Stennis most deserving officer and senior enlisted member during the leadership awards dinner.
Its important to be able to get our leadership together and recognize individuals for their great work, said Capt. David Buss, Stennis' commanding officer. These awards recognize an officer and chief petty officer who have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills over the past year in the spirit of Senator Stennis vision of integrity, honor, courage and commitment.
The Straight Furrow award was presented to Cmdr. Paul Verrastro for his work as Stennis' Supply Officer. The supply department received a number of awards this past year, including the Ney award, which is given to the carrier with the best food service. There is not an award in sight that the supply department did not win last year, said Buss.
Straight Furrow is named after a quote by ship namesake, Mississippi Senator John C. Stennis, who said, I want to plow a straight furrow right down to the end of my row. "The quote is a reference to Mississippi farmers who had to work hard and keep looking forward in order to plow a straight line in the fields," said Rex Buffington, executive director of the Stennis Center for Public Service.
The Look Ahead award was presented to Senior Chief Machinists Mate (SW/AW) David Wisniewski for his work in the engineering department. Look Ahead is a phrase that Senator Stennis kept on various items around his office and is currently found on the ships ball caps.
Wisniewski joined a department running on all cylinders, said Buss. He instituted programs that helped bring engineering on Stennis to a whole new level.
This is a time to celebrate Stennis leadership, said Buffington. Its evident that leadership is there [on Stennis] at every level. Its important to remember that the two we honor represent the whole ship.

Thanks for a great report..I did the Kitty Hawk's first deployment in 1961.
Stennis was meant to deploy to the pacific but is now being sent to the gulf instead, as a result Reagan is leaving port early to take over that role in the pacific.
My daughter and son-in-law were stationed at North Island when the President took the flight to visit the carrier returning from deployment. They had a lot of aircrew friends on the USS Lincoln. We saw another one of the carriers docked at North Island and couldn't believe how huge the carriers were.
We were at North Island the first time when the USS Nimitz made its way into port after being transferred to San Diego from Norfolk. It went from being a 'small' ship coming into San Diego to this huge carrier. Never forget the goosebumps as it sailed into its new home port. My daughter was newly stationed at North Island, and we had no idea the USS Nimitz was arriving.
I especially liked the John Stennis quote about plowing a straight furrow. And the USS Stennis award named after it

God's umbrella will keep your son dry from any storm
