US pop singer Pink has backed down from her call to boycott Australian wool over animal cruelty claims, admitting she failed to fully research the issue.
The singer, who has sold around 200,000 tickets for dozens of shows in her upcoming April tour of Australia, appeared in an animal rights group video last year branding the practice of sheep mulesing "sadistic".
But today, Pink admitted she was misinformed about the issue and had failed to do enough research.
"I probably could have done a lot more researched on my own," she said on Channel 9.
"That's the lesson I'm taking from this.
"My message was, in my mind, boycott animal cruelty - not an entire industry, not Australia, obviously, because it's my favourite country.
"Then going back, I was speaking without thinking and I actually did say ban Australia, which is bullshit. It's not something that I can agree with."
Pink made the video as part of the US-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) three-year campaign to end mulesing.
The practice involves cutting skin folds from sheeps' backsides to protect them against fly strike.
The wool industry has agreed to phase out mulesing by 2010 while research continues into alternatives - a fact Pink said PETA never revealed to her.

Any chance of this catching on?
I thought this was pretty incredible, too. I wish it would catch on. Humility. Fancy that.
"mulesing". Who says you can't learn something new everday at FR?
and "flystrike"
Good for her. At least she has the guts to admit it. Now, next time, she should just kick the PETA idiot in the tail.
Perhaps, but it sounds like she's getting over it...
Usually when you try to explain these things to these clowns, they stick their fingers in their ears and scream LA-LA-LA as loudly as they can. It'd be nice if this does catch on. Let's see how she does when PETA starts going after her for leaving the plantation.
"Stupid" would have been to ask for a second glass of the PETA koolaid after learning of her error; but, she didn't do that. She learned her lesson and likely won't be fooled by PETA again. Hopefully, some of her Hollywood buddies will take notice of how they screwed her and stop supporting that terrorist organization.
I like anyone who calls their own statements "bullshit".
The couple of videos I've seen of her, crack me up!
Smoke and mirrors on PETA's part.
They knew that the practice was being fazed out by 2010 and wanted to get a word of protest out showing that were against it, that way when it does end PETA can claim victory in ending it and continue to fleece suckers into supporting their organization with money even though they had nothing to do with ending it.
You are correct had to go to the old Wikipedia to look that up, and the flystrike. "Mulesing" was started way before the worm medicine available today. Same reason why Brahma cattle were first brought into the southern states, they had a natural immunity to fly larval and grubs. But today's worm medicine takes care of fly larva and grubs.
Then, please stay there Pink. I, for one, can do without you back here in the states.
For my Aussie friends, I am truly sorry she is amongst you. Please feed her to a Dingo.
Not sure we have any dingos that hungry...
Yeah. You could have. Or had someone do it for you. But that would require actual thinking rather then emoting.
Pink put down your copy of "Blink!" and pick up a copy of "Think!" You will be glad you did.
Apparently, this little tidbit slipped by y'all.
"Pink" had to back pedal on her rant because it looked like her "boycott Australia" brainfart was hurting the concert presale receipts.
In other words, funds were lacking when it came time for her a$$ to cash the checks her mouth was writing.
Always follow the money.
When you can look into not only the mirror but the camera too, and genuinely admit your wrong. You deserve some respect.
The Ditzy Chicks could learn from her.
