John McCain Goes Left for Money

by Michael Illions,
Human Events, Jan 15, 2007

Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.), an all-but-announced candidate for President in 2008, has just signed up Lew Eisenberg, one of the most notorious liberal Republicans in New Jersey, to his finance committee.

Eisenberg, who was listed in the leaked Rudy Giuliani strategy memo as someone the campaign should try to sign on, is a liberal, pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, activist millionaire investment banker.

Anyone who follows the big money in politics, his name will sound familiar. He was co-chairman of Bush/Cheney, NJ in 2004 and served as finance chairman for the Republican National Committee. The person who urged the RNC to name him was none other President Bush.

Eisenberg is a close ally of former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, and the two of them have started and funded various organizations to help elect pro-abortion Republicans in primary races. Their ultimate goal is to remove the pro-life plank from the Republican platform. Eisenberg also serves on Whitman’s It’s My Party Too advisory board.

Eisenberg’s support for Republicans appears to be limited, however, as his money has been sent to liberal Democrats Walter Mondale, Dick Gephardt, Tim Wirth, Chris Dodd, Bruce Babbitt, Joe Biden, and others.

In a Nov 15, 1999, Roll Call article about Eisenberg, it was reported that he had voted in just two of 11 GOP primaries between 1987 and 1997.

So, is John McCain, supposedly a pro-life Republican, holding his nose because Eisenberg can “show him the money,” or is McCain surrounding himself with like-minded allies?

John McCain has always been easy to bribe. There was Keating, then he wrote the Indian Tribe exception into the CFR, and now this.

He's no crusader against big money in politics. He's like the Dems: It's only OK if it's going to him.

And there is someone who thinks McCain isn't?

I predict that in '08 John McCain will run as a third party for POTUS and draw off enough votes to give the edge to HRC.

The question is can we find someone to also run as a third party? I don't think that Ralph will do it given that
HRC has his FBI File. A good 4 way may be enough to put the
POTUS into the House for a vote.

"He was co-chairman of Bush/Cheney, NJ in 2004 and served as finance chairman for the Republican National Committee. The person who urged the RNC to name him was none other President Bush"

So McCain shouldn't use him?

So McCain shouldn't use him?

It's perfectly fine for him to use him. But the Conservative base of the Party doesn't have to support McCain. And shouldn't. We have far better conservatives, far better men to go with.

I wouldn't vote for McCain if he were the only person on the republican ticket.
But the article and headline are stupid

Conservatives raised a stink when Bush brought this "man" on board as the money guy for the RNC. Several years later, it looks like those complaints were warranted. The leftward drift of the party continues.

Smart move, given what NJ is in relation to the GOP.

BUMP! Good list!

Did you see where the Left and the RINO-influencers in the MSM, like Morton Kondracke are trying to dis Duncan Hunter?. Every argument they make sounds a like good reason to support him to a real honest-to-god Reaganite.

They are practically spitting mad. Calling him a "neo-con" when he was a hard-core conservative hawk in Congress well before Reagan got elected...

I usually watch Brit Hume and his gang but I missed that. No surprise at all. Kondracke is barely to the right enough to be considered a RINO. Mara Liasson comes down to the right of Mort quite a bit. Krauthammer and Hume are the only ones who seem cognizant of any mentality outside the Beltway.

I'm afraid your link doesn't work so I couldn't check that out. Any escape from the annointed candidates will have to be grassroots. I think that can happen but I'm not real confident that it will.
