In need of help to a question about a proposed bill regarding Valerie Plame
thomas.loc.gov ^ | Jan 17, 2006

Posted on 01/17/2007 2:18:46 PM PST by Mo1

This was just brought to my attention and I need help in understanding what exactly this Bill/Amendment is about.

I tried calling over to the House of Representatives .. but they said there was no one there to help explain the details of this bill/amendment.

They suggested I go to Thomas.gov .. but I already did that.

Can any FReepers out there help direct me in the right direction and find a better way to locate what this is?

Thanks !

How bout #25#:

Dates of Service: CIA, CIA (LWOP), CIA Ð(P/T 40), from 11/9/1985 to 1/9/2006--total 20 years, 7 days.

Based on the above service and your resignation on January 9, 2006, your estimated deferred annuity is $21,541.00 per year, or $1795 per month, beginning at age 56.

-------

which seriously implies that she collected a paycheck until January 2006. And she submitted her resignation effective as soon as the twenty year mark was reached.

She should have told her husband not to write an Op-Ed in the NYTimes, if she was worried about her "cover."

FANTASTIC JOB, RB!! Hope you'll continue to be a Thomas Watcher. WooHoo .. that's what we need: more eyes on congresscritters. Forget their photo ops and nightly news, talkshow speeches. It's what they propose and vote in that matters.

Hiya again.

I was on the Thomas website and looking at the "Yesterday in Congress" link and saw this:

45. H.R.501 : -- Private Bill; For the relief of Valerie Plame Wilson.
Sponsor: Rep Inslee, Jay [WA-1] (introduced 1/16/2007) Cosponsors (None)
Committees: House Intelligence (Permanent Select)
Latest Major Action: 1/16/2007 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on Intelligence (Permanent Select).

Is there any way we can find out more about what this is if it is a Private Bill?

"Earmarks" like this should result in an earful from more than a handful!

Wait a minute. She CHOSE to quit, and it was her responsibility to consider all the consequences of resigning BEFORE she made that decision. We the taxpayers should NOT pay for her poor judgment in this matter.

Kill the bill.

~LOL~ I bet your heart broke when you heard you had two fewer residents and they were Plame and Wilson.

I thought I read somewhere when the Plame topic was hot that she stayed only long enough to get her pension and then quit. Maybe I'm not remembering right . . . Maybe she miscalculated? ;-)

Well I'll be. The Wilsons want the money now.

I guess Joe's book isn't selling too well.

What happened to the lawsuit the Wilson's filed against Cheney, Rove, and Libby in July of 2006?

I think they are dishonest, money grubbing opportunists who deserve no special treatment. Let Joe support her off his retirement and income from the sale of his book until she becomes of age to receive her pension!

But now we both do.

A private bill is one providing benefits to specified individuals (including corporate bodies). Individuals sometimes request relief through private law when administrative or legal remedies are exhausted, but Congress seems more often to view private legislation as appropriate in cases for which no other remedy is available, and when its enactment would, in a broad sense, afford equity.

Maybe she miscalculated?

No... she does get a pension, she just hasn't reached the age of 56 and so can't yet collect it. This bill is just to let her get the pension early.

Apparently she was 42 yrs old in December 2005 when this was posted over at huffington and says she was quitting her job to become a full-time mom.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2005/11/29/valerie-plame-to-quit-her_n_11384.html

She was not forced to quit, she did it voluntarily. What she's looking for is to be paid her pension for an extra 13 years before she's qualified to receive it. She knew when she quit she wasn't eligible unless she's absolutely stupid.

Don't forget when her lying spouse retired he had to take a reduced pension because he retired early.

Lets see, by those calculations perhaps I'll be allowed to draw SS on my 52nd birthday instead of waiting till I'm 65.

I'd really like to know just who these lying Wilson weasels think they are that puts them way above anyone else and deserves them special privileges.

"It would be interesting to see WHEN she "quit" her job; what do you want to bet it was AFTER the Vanity fair cover?"

The New York Post | Posted November 29, 2005 10:21 AM

Plame, 42, wife of Iraq war critic Joseph Wilson, will retire next month from the CIA after 20 years tracking proliferators of weapons of mass destruction, CIA officials confirmed.
