The nations largest political action committee is about to endorse a presidential candidate for the first time Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Emilys List, the Democratic fund-raising organization that helps women candidates who support abortion rights, will announce its backing of Clinton as soon as she declares as a candidate in the 2008 race, a move that is expected to come shortly.
"We are going to be there early on, Ellen Malcolm, president of the organization, told the Chicago Sun-Times.
"When she gets in the race, there are going to be millions of women excited about electing the first female president.
In the past, Emilys list has provided early money to the campaigns of women at all levels of government, plus strategic advice and staffing help, according to the influential Washington, D.C.-based publication Roll Call.
For the 2008 race, Clinton would likely appear in mailings that Emilys List sends out to potential contributors. But the group hasnt disclosed if Clinton would also receive staffing help or benefit from "the voter turnout program that Emilys List has established in key states which actually could prove to be more valuable, Roll Call reports.
Founded in 1985, Emilys List claims to have helped elect 67 pro-choice members of Congress and eight governors. Its name is an acronym for its motto, "Early money is like yeast, it makes the dough rise, and the organization raised about $46 million for candidates in the 2006 elections.
But a strategist for a potential rival to Clinton in the primaries told Roll Call: "This is a big risk for Emilys List.
"Last cycle, Emilys List took a hit for taking the wrong side in primaries . . . Now to bet the house on a divisive, polarizing figure like Hillary Clinton may be a jump the shark moment.
A more evil organization would be hard to find!!!
NO surprise here.
When it comes to US politics, you are one well informed Aussie, Dasher.
Regards.
Why would this be a surprise to anyone who is familiar with Emily's List?
Thank you. I like to keep an eye on things... :-)
More the timing than anything else.
"Pro-choice". That is the most ridiculous term. The right to kill a baby who only needs to share a body for a short time is called choice. What a sick media we have where killing is refered to as 'choice'.
Because Hillary doesn't need any money to be considered viable. She can and will raise all she could possibly spend without the help of a PAC organized to help novice candidates.
Hello? It's not the MONEY........it's the LIST.
"Pro-choice". That is the most ridiculous term. The right to kill a baby who only needs to share a body for a short time is called choice. What a sick media we have where killing is refered to as 'choice'.
I totally agree. Just what do these people think when they refer to us as pro-life? If they would use any brain cells and think what the opposite of the term pro-life is....wait, what am I thinking? Brain cells? Never mind.
And Hillary wants us to believe she's a moderate? She's as liberal as they come. And her judges, along with being supportive of abortion in all trimesters would work to let terrorists off. Judges need to be an issue the next election. Demonrats will be a disaster to our national security with the judges they appoint.
Pro Choice is about anything but choice. Pro choice really means pro abort. If a woman chooses to keep, the 'pro choicers' will do everything they can to change her mind to abort.
Wow, gee, woopi.

Emily's List is a group of very rich pro-abortion on demand women who write checks only to pro-abort candidates.
They are the richest, most powerful political group in America.
To EL abortion isd the most important issue of our time.
Will Hillary take turn her back on their blood money in order to fool "values" voters? Don't hold your breath.
How are the DBM reporting this? They are reporting it, right?
They don't refer to us as "pro-life", rather anti-abortion. The LA times banned the term 'pro-life' because it was offensive to those who support abortion. If that sounds far-fetched, check out this LA Times article where the paper's music critic used the term pro-life to describe an opera as life affirming. The copy editor changed it to anti-abortion. The opera of course had nothing to do with abortion.
