Whew, I thought the missle was destroyed in space.
Rut-roh.
(tip o' the hat to Moe Howard)
And JUST WHEN do you think the Red Chinese Communists give a tinkers damned about international law. That has NEVER stopped a communist before!!! International law?????? What a freaking joke. Like the Red Chinese give a $*&#!!!!
Will America's "Star Wars" missile defense program need satellites for it to work?
Call me cynical but I believe the Chinese knew exactly what they were doing and have just sent a message to the U.S.
There's cocoa butter and mineral oil scattered all over the place now...

HEY,did they use the missle technology Bill Clinton gave to them to shoot it down ? Just wondering !!!
Reputable establishments have rules against this.
Especially since Russia released a statement early this morning stating this was a hoax.
Here is the statement I referenced:

Russia - Reports that China missile hits satellite are rumors - Ivanov
Ah. Very interesting.
Britain has joined the US, Japan and Australia's condemnation of China after the communist country destroyed a satellite in space using a ballistic missile.

EVERYTHING we use depends on satellites... all our new GPS-guided munitions, some of the Star Wars stuff, most of our current navigational and communications equipment... everything.
The Chinese don't give a damn what a bunch of hand-wringing politicians have to say, and they don't care wheteher they sent us a message or not. What they care about is developing weapons systems that work when they need something destroyed... rather than sending a message of compassion and dialogue.
Looks like they got what they paid for.
But...but....China is our friend....aren't they?
The Russians are only a tiny bit less anti-America than the Chinese. They have joint military excercises and non-aggression pacts, and the Russians sell the Chinese weapons and weapons technology. I think we would do well to consider the fact that it may someday be to Russia's benefit if we underestimate Chinese military capabilities.
The Chinese are the only military in the world with a fully active anti-satellite weapons program.
hopefullly they didn't interrupt someone's massage or body scrub, that would be truly unfortunate!

I was waiting for someone to take this seriously on this thread.
If China can take out our satelites they can distroy our GPS sytems, our air defense and our cell phone capability.
This, IMO, is a big thing.
Was this recently? Didn't some areas of the US observe and film a satellite "breaking up" through the atmosphere a week or two ago? Related?
"Chinese missile destroys satellite in spa"
General Dong must have been very jealous of a cheating girlfriend.
Does our Star wars system intercept the missles before they reach where our satellites are orbiting? If so, then our system is ok. If the system only hits missles upon re-entry, then we are in trouble. Also, will our system be able to hit cruise missles that can alter course and hug the terrain?

Wow! That spa looks just like space!
If it's on my back deck, is it "outer spa"? Just how big of a satellite can fit in a spa anyway?
Someday, the entire story of the Clinton corruption will be published, probably with an advance piece in the Atlantic.
I don't think the PRC signed a treaty not to use space for warfare. It is tough for the US to test an ASAT weapon successsfully and then agree to not use space for warfare. In the eyes of the rest of the world we look like hypocrites to complain. IMHO this is a nonissue pertaining to international law, however it is important that we now know that China is capable of anti satellite (ASAT) warfare and we need to adjust our warfighting doctrine accordingly.
That was the re-entry of a Russian booster rocket that had launched a french satellite.
We live in scary times.
> Just how big of a satellite can fit in a spa anyway? <
Easy: Small sat, big spa.
....meanwhile, back in the United States, the democrats continue to oppose the war on terror and call President Bush incompetent.....
This is an utterly stupid policy. Blowing up the satellite will create more space debris which could damage other satellites and future space shuttle missions. These old satellites are better off left intact and allowed to plunge back to earth where they will be consumed in the atmosphere. I am surprised that such a stupid act was committed.Someone call Al Gore Immediately
That's good. Satellites don't belong in spas.
This is a big deal to our Missle Defense forces.

The Chinese are not trying to clear out old satellites just as Iran is not developing nuclear capabilities as an alternate energy source. They are testing a missile system and sending a message to the U.S., Japan and anybody else that is listening. They blew up their own old satellite because to blow up anybody else's old satellite at this point in time would not be good for international relations.
It happened right here:
So that's what the kids are calling it these days.
re: "it happened right here" with pic.
Damn, now I know why my $4.95 per month live cam view went out. The Chinese government owes me a refund.
Did the Russians drop theirs? We dropped ours?
This report says that it was a ballistic intercept...does anyone know how much evasive capability we've considered or how big the step is from ballistic to tracked?
Hello, thanks much for the ping!
I'm home now. Got home at 1 AM this morning. Swamped with work from the committee meetings (things were so busy I rarely got on this Internet), but it'll clear out in a few days.
How've things been with you all?
The Chinese destroyed a missile in a spa?
What's the matter with those people?
Don't they know that spas are supposed to be tranquil?
How am I supposed to enjoy my pedicure with missiles being blown up all around me?
Hey, Gang! We're over here!
*scratching noggin*
In a SPA?
Yikes!
