Eternal Vigilance has admitted on another thread that his purpose is to *gall* people. I'm sure that is why he posts as well!

Not related to the main discussion... Madison was also fortunate to have Jefferson restrain him from some of his worst impulses. I read recently, don't remember where, but Madison in the lead up to the War of 1812 asked Jefferson for advice on whether he should declare war on both France and England. Jefferson of course weighed in against that idea.
I get the impression that Madison, Jefferson, and Hamilton all advocated really bad ideas from time to time. What is astonishing is that the the winning side of these arguments was so darn often the correct side.

His presence does no more for Free Republic's image than did his prettier forerunner.

You haven't had a word to say about the topic of the thread. All you've had since your arrival on this thread are personal attacks on me. You can do better. You have more to add than that.

Leave it to you to take things out of context and use them as a pretext for a personal attack. Do you have anything to add to the constitutional issues that are being discussed here?

Interesting. I have not read a serious biography of Madison, himself. Where did you pick that up?

...personal attacks on me...No, attacks on your sellout price and your deception-for-hire and your ridiculous positions.
You said Romney would be the most liberal POTUS in the history of the Republic. That is the most idiotic claim you've ever met (a tough competition to be sure).

What is astonishing is that the the winning side of these arguments was so darn often the correct side. While I agree with you generally, in the case of judicial power, IMO, the right side did not prevail, leading to a steady increase in the power of the judicial branch since.

So then EV's just a filthy troll? It sure looks like it. He makes conservatives look bad. He is encouraging people to break the law. He calls just about everyone he disagrees with here names. And he admitted that he is part of the GOP *because* it galls people. Is there any other conclusion?

They premised their hopes for the republic entirely on reliance on Him Actually they were secular humanist elightenment skeptics to a man, the founders were, except for Hamilton, who vacillated. Religion to them was like fire: it had benefits to the public square, but dangerous, and needed a fire company to keep it in check. Read the Moral Minority and get back to me with your thoughts. I found the founders from reading it, that the founders were entirely kindred spirits to moi. :)
