SIERRA VISTA -- Fort Huachuca officials announced that all personnel including DA civilians and contractors have been sent home this morning due to the inclement weather.
Only mission essential personnel and residents will be allowed access to the installation. All non-mission essential personnel who may already be on the fort have been released. Officials advise caution when traveling on the installation due to icy conditions.
The fort's dining facilities are operating on a normal schedule for now, but the situation may be update. In other related news, Interstate 10 remains open but there are numerous icy spots east of Tucson. Motorists should expect winter driving conditions with sporadic delays and lane closures.
State Route 70 and State Route 191 are closed due to snow and ice.These highways are in the Safford area.
Interstate 10 in New Mexico remains closed in both directions.
For the most current information on the highway conditions please call 511 and follow the prompts for I-10 east of Tucson.
A heavy snow warning remains in effect through 5 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
Schools in Bisbee, Tombstone and Palominas closed because of the snow and the road conditions it created, according to the school districts Web sites.
Sierra Vista schools went on as normal.
Highway 90 between Sierra Vista and Bisbee was closed overnight because of snow and ice on the roadway, but reopened this morning, according to the ADOT Web site www.az511.com. The weather service forecast for today includes continued snow and moisture through the morning, tapering off as the day progress. The weather was being created by a "strong and cold winter storm" system that was over central Arizona and moving south toward northern Mexico, the weather service reported. As part of the area forecast, possible snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches were expected in the lower elevations. In higher elevations, such as the Huachuca Mountains, 4 to 8 inches of snow was expected. For road condition information, call 511 or log onto www.az511.com

That is about the same as we had here a week or so ago.
I've been through this before in Arizona and New Mexico. In December 1971, as I was driving from Fort Gordon (GA) to Fort Lewis (WA), I got caught in a blizzard in Albuquerque and spent an extra day there. When I got out of there, I-40 was fine through New Mexico, but it was pure ice in Arizona. It hit -5 in the morning in Flagstaff, and I didn't get out of the snow until I hit Kingman.

Yeah,.. caught that with all the warning on CH4 and CH11.
It brings back the memory of when I had completed the MI Officer's advance course and had my PCS orders in Dec, 1982. I cleared my quarters on the 28th and was in the post guest house and planned to leave on the 29th. I woke up to no power and a foot of snow on the ground.
I went down and found my combat boots, which were packed, naturally in the bag at the FRONT of the U Haul trailer. I trekked down to the billeting office and the manager said "I bet you want to know if you can extend your stay." I said "Yes." He replied, "No problem, I've had a half a dozen calls from folks stuck elsewhere saying they won't be arriving for a day or two."
I delayed departure until the 31st and made it to El Paso by 4pm, that day. The pass through the mountains east of El Paso was not opened to traffic until 10am and then only to vehicles with either chains or snow tires. Because I was going on leave back to the midwest I had snowtires on my car. It was a long day crossing the mountains due to the snow and ice. the road itself was about 6 inches below the ice surface I drove on.
10 years earlier, the mountains backing the ranges caught alight. We had to go fight it and the crew I was with got trapped by the blaze. Had to hunker in (found a bare draw with no brush) and let it burn over us. Tankers turned us pink dropping their crud on us but the Duce-n-Half was a smoldering hulk. Not fun.

Really? Haven't heard about another one. All I heard is that we have a frost warning.
Anecdotal evidence is only acceptable when it "proves" global warming.
For instance, the fact that 2% of the Antarctic ice shelf is melting is proof of global warming.
The fact that 98% of the Antarctic ice shelf is getting thicker is proof of nothing.
Is that clear?

From what I remember, the global warming hypothesis states that warm air will displace the freezing air of the arctic. The effect would be to cause the polar caps to melt while very unusual weather strikes randomly around the world.

Nope, 2 hours. Official start time 0700 hours each day and the Mrs. has tasks for me to do so I don't really get to be off, kinda.
