Vieira: President Bush 'Not Exactly Like a Dog With His Tail Between His Legs' [Video]

As Americans, we all enjoy the right to criticize the president. But particularly on august occasions like the State of the Union, most agree that the office of the presidency is entitled to a modicum of respect. Or not -- at least in Meredith Vieira's case. On this morning's "Today," David Gregory set the stage with his depiction of W's mood:
"The president was more modest in his approach, more humbled, a real sense that he reconizes that it's going to be difficult to keep both Democrats and Republicans on board here as he tries to persuade the country to stick with him on Iraq."
That's when Vieira put her own vulgar stamp on matters:
"Yeah, not exactly like a dog with his tail between his legs but obviously no posturing, either."
Video hereThere are times when I find Vieira's earthiness a refreshing change from her more-controlled predecessor. Then there are other times.

It would not be possible to keep Democrats on board, no matter what. They are there to only criticize the president. They have absolutely NO reasons WHY the president's plans won't work. They have NO alternatives to offer.

Lousy b*tch. They won the last election, but that's not enough blood for them. He's pretty much going along with their program. He isn't going to get any legislation through, and absolutely no judicial appointments. What more do they want from this guy? How much is enough for these scumbags?
If this is the 'Rat notion of "bipartisanship" and "cooperation", I'd say the 'Pubs don't have anything to lose by throwing it right back in the ugly faces of the 'Rats. But the 'Pubs keep trying to make nice to 'Rats who do nothing more than kick them in their gonads every chance they get.

If the Dems , the libs, and the MSM would support, and prosecute, the War on Terror as eagerly as the support the War on Bush, we'd have won in Iraq two years ago

I agree. She's condescending and smug. She started out on the wrong foot with Al Roker too.....putting him down because he is the only the 'weatherguy'. It won't be long before she starts thinking she's going to run the whole show.

I've been on board awhile. I've seen the 'Pubs play kissy-face with 'Rats ever since they took over in '94. Playing nice with 'Rats as if that was going to buy them any goodwill when they got kicked out. Well, we see how much good will playing nice for 12 years with the 'Rats got them. But they won't learn their lesson. They keep charging up to that football and the 'Rats pull it away every time, but the 'Pubs don't learn better. They keep coming back for more.

Oops. Been out of circulation lately, thanks for the correction.
Ah well, my message at least contained a slam at Rosie O'Donuts, so it wasn't a total loss.

The media wanted nothing less than President Bush to stand there and cry while asking for forgiveness for the "crimes" they've alleged he's committed.

I agree!
Also, if everyone in politics put their own personal ambitions and prejudices aside (stopped focusing on lining their own pockets) and decided to actually do what's best for the country instead of acting like selfish, spoiled, immature, brats... Watching them in action makes me want to puke.

chimera, I sure hope this election has taught the Pub's a lesson........if it didn't we're really in trouble. I'm officially an ex member of the RNC now that Martinez is in charg and I can't abide giving money to the campaigns of the likes of the Maine Dames, the Hagels, the Grahams and such......we need NEW, BOLDER, CONSERVATIVE, BLOOD! (or a true Conservative Party).

For 12 years the 'Pubs treated the 'Rats in the House with kid gloves, hoping to buy their goodwill and show them how to make nice, thinking maybe when it came their turn to be the minority again the 'Rats would reciprocate. Well, we've seen when the 'Rats got the majority back they reverted to their tyrannical mode that they practiced for the previous 40 years. A lot of good the 'Pubs' playing nice did them. But the 'Pubs won't learn.
The pragmatic side of me says not to give up on them yet, since I'm not sure going a third-party route will gain us much in terms of implementing an agenda. There are some good people still left on the 'Pub side. Not perfect, mind you, because no one is, but still good.
I must be honest and admit to having a very narrow focus for this upcoming election. Short of selling my soul, I will be willing to do what it takes to keep Hillary! or Obamalamadingdong out of the WH. It doesn't please me to say that, but I just don't see much in the way of depth on the 'Pub bench. OTOH, I don't want to sit on the sidelines and let Hillary or RamalamaObama hijack the country down a Marxist path.

I know how you feel chimera. A third party probably won't happen in our lifetime but I can dream. I will vote Republican like I always have because the alternative, imho, is a vote for for the devil. :(

I'm with you on that. Our political system isn't perfect. We seldom get the ideal candidate. Sometimes you just have to play the best hand you can with the cards you are dealt. I just can't stomach the thought of a President Hillary or President Hussein Obama. I will do anything I can (within the rules) to keep that nightmare from happening. The damage they would do to this country would leave it unrecognizable by those who value liberty and justice. We just can't take that risk.

Maybe I need to watch the video to catch it. It doesn't exactly look like a slam to me.
I keep reading it as Meredith saying that the President isn't afraid to keep on doing what he's doing - threats from the Democrats are not going to scare him. At the same time, he's not being overtly threatening or fake, he is just telling it like it is (he's not posturing).
"Yeah, not exactly like a dog with his tail between his legs but obviously no posturing, either."

When speaking of the POTUS at the SOTU, I'd say it's bad etiquette to, in any way, analogize him to a dog. Just my opinion.
