Hillary's Hollywood Friends Switch Sides
ABC News ^ | 12/24/2007 | MARCUS BARAM

Posted on 01/24/2007 7:53:03 PM PST by HarmlessLovableFuzzball

Jan. 24, 2007 — - Is Hollywood abandoning Hillary?

On Wednesday morning, hundreds of Hollywood's movers and shakers received an invitation that they may find hard to refuse.

They've been invited to come meet Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic Party's new superstar. He already has the buzz, but can he bring home the prize?

Movie moguls Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg want their Hollywood peers to join them at a Feb. 20 fundraiser the three are throwing for Obama.

For $2,300 a person and $4600 a couple, they can meet the candidate at a reception at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Those who commit to raising $46,000 (10 couples/20 tickets) for the evening will be invited to a private dinner at Geffen's Malibu, Calif., home.

The fundraiser represents a major slap for Obama's main competitor, Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has received financial support from all three moguls in the past. Their company, Dreamworks SKG, has contributed $47,000 to Clinton since her 2000 New York Senate campaign.

Spielberg alone has contributed $11,000 to Clinton since that campaign, and his political consultant, Andy Spahn, emphasized that Spielberg and Geffen have not yet officially endorsed Obama. "Mr. Katzenberg is endorsing Sen. Obama's candidacy," he said. "Mr. Spielberg is co-hosting the event but has not made any endorsements as of yet."

Spahn added that Spielberg "expects to be helpful to a few candidates during this exploratory phase," and may host fundraisers for Clinton and John Edwards as well. "Spielberg likes John Edwards and has a relationship with him -- those are the two who he also likes."

Since the invitation went out just this morning, it was not clear who had R.S.V.P.'d for the event. But it is likely that those celebrities who've expressed support for Obama's candidacy -- including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Oprah Winfrey, Oliver Stone and superagent Ari Emanuel -- will be at the Beverly Hilton on Feb. 20.

You mean our country's politics is determined by multi-millionaires? Who woulda thunk it?

By the way, this is the party of the little people.

The country should have a "liberal tax". Since the liberals want to spend more money on federal programs, they should be forced to pony up.

Wow! Nice discount! I guess if a couple brings both sets of parents it would be $13,800.00

Oh for crying out loud- for each presidential candidate there must be a VP candidate.

The presstitutes alwys want to make it sound like the jostling and rivalries are more than just acts in a bad play.

I'd like these three multi-millionaire (billionaire?) moguls to go on record as to Sen. Obama's qualifications for the Presidency. Where is his gravitas? His experience?

Would any of them feel comfortable surrendering the reigns to their financial fortunes and business interests to this man to run their companies with his level of experience? If not their private operations, what makes him qualified to run America?

Good on Obama Rama politics. The Dems are having a twitch fest. They look at Obama with a fascination reminiscent of an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

You gotta love it.

No. Remember, these are democrats who love the marriage penalty. I'd expect $2300/person or $5000/couple.

Almost all lefties will switch alliegance on a dime, depending on what the party line is this week. They are overwhelmingly lemmings, and they support whatever goofy idea, cause, or person that is in fashion at any given time. If they need to switch back to Hillary by primary time, they will do so without looking back for a second. Nobody right now has any idea what they will end up doing.

Its sooo cute how the hollywood glitterati pretend that they are actually have a choice in all of this. It doesn't make any difference what they do for the next 15 months. As soon as the primary is over, they will be so far up the Dimocrat nominees #*@! that you will only be able to see their Manolo Blahniks sticking out. All of this silly game playing entertains the media but it is meaningless to adults and professional politicians. After all, Hollywood ia wholly owned subsidiary of the DNC so their vote is already been cast.

You know Hillary has to be nashing her teeth over all this. If only Barbara Streisand were to attend Obama's fundraisertoo, that would make it even more sweet. Hillary's grip on Tinseltown would really be evident then.

Bad news for Hillary. Hollywood is all about temporary fad and fashion. Obama is now the latest flavor of the month being fawned over by the liberal media and Hollywood is sure to jump on board. Once it's established that it's "hip" to be for Obama, Hillary is toast in tinseltown.
