Girl, 6, embodies Cambodia's sex industry
CNN ^
Posted on 01/25/2007 7:54:24 AM PST by SmoothTalker
" At an age when most children might be preparing for their first day of school, Srey, 6, already has undergone trauma that is almost unspeakable.
She was sold to a brothel by her parents when she was 5. It is not known how much her family got for Srey, but other girls talk of being sold for $100; one was sold for $10."
"Srey is HIV-positive, she said."
"Srey was rescued from the life of a sex slave by Somaly Mam, a former prostitute who runs shelters for the victims of Cambodia's sex trade. Somaly has rescued 53 children, so far. Many of them have profound psychological trauma. Some clearly are mentally ill. (Watch how one woman has saved dozens of children from brothels )
"A lot of them, when they arrive, have psychological problems ... very big problems. ... And they never have love by the people, by their parents," Somaly said.
One girl at Somaly's shelter appears especially disturbed. She was rescued after being imprisoned for two years in a cage, where she was repeatedly raped."
"Around the world, more than 1 million children are exploited in the global commercial sex trade each year, according to the U.S. State Department. The State Department believes Cambodia is a key transit and destination point in this trade."

This sort of thing makes me very angry. And yet people in many parts of the world see American culture as the source of all evil.

I read about a Protestant Minister once who was rescuing these sex slave children, I don't remember his name but he too had single handedly bought and freed many of them to an American run orphanage.

She's six years old. She's already been sold for sex for over a year. And she's no doubt doomed to a miserable death in a short time because of her HIV.
And for what?
I don't understand people sometimes. But I do know that the procurers of children and the "sex tourists" need to be taken out and shot like the pigs they are. No mercy.

Buddhism has no concept of "sin". Now we know why That is absolute nonsense. Two of the main problems in Cambodia are the destruction of the family units and the killing of the Buddhist monks under Pol Pot removing the "moral compasses" of the poor. Now Cambodia has a socialist government headed by a former supporter of Pol Pot. This government permeated by corruption, combined with grinding poverty from which people are largely prohibited from working their way out, presents a situation in which some parents sell their children. Add the growing drug problem in the urban areas of Cambodia, and you have a recipe for hell.

As long as the USofA allows such "freedom of speech" as NAMBLA, how can we say we're not tainted with the evils of child sexual abuse?
How can the USofA claim that "children are to be protected" when the USofA allows unborn children to be horribly abused in late term abortions?
The USofA talks out of both sides of her mouth. It's not just child sexual abuse, it's freedom of speech abuse which must be addressed.
The USofA IS guilty. We need to quit pandering to NAMBLA and Hollywood and the "sex industry" here in the USofA if we are going to be condemning same in other countries.
The USofA needs a reality check and a long hard look into the mirror.

This looks like a good place to post some Kerry quotes:
QUOTE ONE
"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared -- seared -- in me."
QUOTE TWO
They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.
QUOTE THREEE (the best one?)
"There are powerful (*sniff-sniff*) reasons to want to continue that fight now. But I have concluded (*Waa!-Waa!*) this isn't the time for me (*Boo-Hoo!*) to mount a presidential campaign."

This sort of thing makes me very angry. And yet people in many parts of the world see American culture as the source of all evil.Ok, put all the blame on the Cambodians but remember that it's Americans and Europeans who are funding this barbarism -- Western sex tourists fund virtually the entire southeast Asian sex industry. For every supply there must be a demand. Eliminate the demand (preferably with a 50 caliber round to the head) and you'll eliminate the supply.

Whew, stuff like this...I get physically sick when I read about it.....hard to sum up my feelings, disgust, sadness, extreme rage. You'd think "humans" would all be ingrained with some hardwired level of protection...or a certain base level of compassion for our young ones. I guess not.
I saw some soldiers diary show on last week where a squad came upon a hut in Iraq with two mentally retarded girls...looked to be about 10 + maybe 14 years old, sitting half naked with no water or food on a dirt floor, 120 degree heat. Outside were a few grown Iraqi men...seemingly oblivious to the suffering and indignation that these two retarded kids were going through. The lead guy (American) was visibly disgusted and pissed off at these Iraqi's. He held it together pretty good, a lot better than I would have in that situation. I guess the fact that there was a camera rolling made him think twice about retribution. If I was there, I'd probably have stripped the men, chained them to the wall and put a bowl of water just out of reach..... let them see how it felt.
One can only wonder if those scumbags abused those kids (sexually)....
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
...sorry for the rant.

But the difference is that Americans and Europeans are much richer -- and therefore have the money to fund the industry.

In some primitive (and therefore superior) cultures people believe having sex with a virgin cures AIDS.
She was in all probability specifically targeted by an AIDS sufferer. Probably several as I am sure the madam got a premium every time she claimed she was new and a virgin.

Forgive me, but you don't know what you're talking about. Supposedly (and I say supposedly because there's little evidence anybody actually believes it), that's a myth prevalent among poor rural South African tribal peoples. There are precious few poor rural South African tribal peoples in Cambodia.
Why do people continue to pontificate from positions of abject ignorance?
