Late Breaking News!
DEBORAH ORIN-ELIBECK Deborah Orin-Elibeck, the veteran New York Post Washington columnist and a force in both Washington and New York, has died, colleagues said.
Is this the one who was fighting breast cancer?
You're probably thinking of Molly Ivins.
OMG. This is sad. I see her alot on Fox News. She is young? First Ive heard. Hope it is wrong!
was it expected? i've heard nothing of this.
Do we have a link? Any details?
Is her name spelled right?, nothing comes up in Google
I used to see her on Chris Matthews hardball show.
She looked in her 40s, possibly 50s.
See lucianne's home page. I don't know anything beyond the fact that an announcement is posted there, nor do the usual search engines turn up anything, which is why I posted it with a question mark.
You are right. It was Chris Matthews not Fox I saw her on. She always was very calm with Crazy Chris.
So sorry to hear this. Prayers for her family and loved ones.
Rest in peace.
Thanks. I checked that. All I saw was a one-liner, that "colleagues say", which may or may not be construed as definitive by some.
It looks like her last column for the NY Post was January 4th. I didn't know she was sick.
This is a shocker.
I have always read every Deborah-Orin-bylined piece I came across - she was a journalist's journalist, brave and relentless. I remember the constant sneering abuse she took, without batting an eye, from Clinton mouthpieces during press conferences because she broke the Clinton rules: she actually asked them legitimate tough questions. They tried to do to her what they did to every other troublesome woman in those days, but it had no effect on her. She was smart, tough, interested in only facts, with her New Yorker's BS meter trained on all of them. I am hoping against hope that the report isn't true.
Just talking with my Mom and she said she saw her on TV yesterday. I think it might have been the forum with Laura Ingraham and Kate O'Beirne. Hope it's a false rumor. She's a good reporter.
She was always calm... but often I saw her give looks of disbelief at Spitboys fantasy-land assumptions.
My goodness gracious!! What on earth happened? So sad. I highly valued her views. Horrible if true.
Terrible shame. I read her Post columns all the time.
She was a REAL journalist.
I read here some time back that she was battling cancer.
Your mom may be thinking of Mona Charen who was part of the NRO forum.
Can't find any other info about this, and she has a column in today's NY Post. Hope this is an incorrect report. She is/was one of the fairest journalists.
Deborah Orin was NY Post's Washington bureau chief, according to google.
She had previously been a columnist for many years.
Yes, it is. Very sad.
You're correct. Mom is almost 89 and called Laura ,Laura Ingles and Kate, Kate Burns. I guess I should be happy that she's watching them on C-Span. She likes to brag to everyone that she never watches the gabage on the "major" networks".
Yes, if there is an absolute ideal of what a professional journalist should be, Orin was it. And prolific beyond belief.
Horrible, horrible news. One of NY's best reporters. The loss to the NY Post of this wonderful journalist is on the par with the loss of their own Eric Breindel several years ago. RIP Deborah.
I am confident I would just love your mom. What a pistol.
A fine, honest journalist. I haven't found any confirmation yet, but I fear it's probably true if Whosit has it posted.
Rest in Peace!
Good for her. One C-SPAN junkie to another.
There's nothing about this on NY Post's web site.
Apparently she died of cancer.

I guess that's confirmation enough. Very sad.
That's pretty official coming from the WH. Terrible, shocking news.
White House confirmation means it's true.
Very sad.
May she RIP.
Ohmygoodness!! RIP, Deborah. I read everything!
What a loss, onyx. Horrible. She was a terrific researcher and will be missed.
Oh, no....I hadn't heard that.
She was one of the FEW journalists that I wanted to read or listen to.
God Bless her and her family.
OMG .. I didn't know she was ill
Sending prayer for her and her family
I didn't know either.
Very sad.
President and Mrs Bush are saddened by the death of Deborah Orin.

OMG, please don't let it be true. Deb was one of the few journalists, real journalists, left in the world.
Her columns were always among my favorites. My sincere condolences to her husband and all who loved her. She will be missed. R.I.P.
Mine too. She was a wonderful journalist. May God comfort her family. I wish we had known she was sick.
