If you look, both Feingold and Edwards have been looking to fill the Dean role in this campaign. They clearly believe that only Dean's intemperence kept him from winning. They think they won't suffer the same fate.
Interestingly, Obama is doing just the opposite.

Left-wing blogger Amanda Marcotte of the vociferously anti-war web site Pandagon has been named by the John Edwards campaign as their new blogmaster. Ms. Marcotte will be taking up residence in Chapel Hill in the near future, and says “[the Edwards] campaign also excited my interests, because we have the goal of making the most out of the untapped resource that is the internet. Already this blog has more interactivity and genuinely interesting and issues-oriented content than any other campaign site I’ve seen thus far, and with the new staff we’re bringing together, we will be able to take it much further in that direction. Internet organizing is still in its infancy as far as I’m concerned and I expect that the presidential election of 2008 will be a major factor in taking internet political organizing to the next level. Of course I want to be a part of that!”
The extent of Ms. Marcotte’s responsibilities at the Edwards site, and the nature of the political operations she will be undertaking as a member of the Edwards campaign, have not yet been detailed publicly.

Pandagon Now The Online Face Of John Edwards
Amanda Marcotte, a man-hating windbag who blogs at the leftwingnut hate site Pandagon, has joined the John Edwards campaign as their blogmaster. No, this is not a joke.
The Jawa Report recently highlighted Marcotte's wildly inept prosecutorial fantasies and mindless hyperfeminist rambling, which were sporadically posted during first few months of the Duke Lacrosse incident. The case's rapid deterioration in full view of the public caused her to go completely silent on the issue after June 2006. For some reason.
She's probably busy trying to figure out a way to make the case that John Edwards' recent purchase of a multi-million dollar, 20-thousand-plus square foot mansion spoke truth to power to the rich elites in America and helped the most unfortunate among us. Don't worry - she'll think of something.
And just remember - there are Democrats proposing new anti-speech laws that aim to prohibit people from 'deceiving voters' during election time. Edwards had better lawyer up.

Florida A&M chooses Ammons

DURHAM -- Florida A&M University trustees today selected James H. Ammons to be the next president of his alma mater in Tallahassee. The decision means N.C. Central University, the Durham campus that Ammons has led for the past six years, will have to find a new chancellor.
On Wednesday, the Florida A&M Alumni Association cited Ammons' proven track record. **

Councilman wants some fired for lead-testing mess

DURHAM -- The city government's reaction to its violation of federal lead-testing regulations should include the firing of at least some of the officials responsible, a city councilman said Thursday.
"Terminations need to result from this, given the breach in public safety and health," Councilman Thomas Stith said. "I don't think this merits a slap on the wrist. We have to send a message that we take this seriously as a governmental entity."
Stith's comments came two days after officials confirmed that a set of 166 samples established that lead is more likely to appear in tap water here than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency allows.
The set included 97 samples officials hadn't factored into their October claim that Durham's water system was in compliance with EPA regulations.
Customers taking advantage of the city's offer of free, on-demand lead tests generated 76 of the extra samples. The rest were special tests the Water Management Department conducted to gauge the effects its tinkering with the city's water treatment program was having on lead levels.
State and federal regulators have said the extra results belonged in Durham's compliance calculation, and City Manager Patrick Baker conceded this week that the responsible officials in his government hadn't understood the reporting rules.
Stith compared the lead problem to September's outbreak of a fire in a city-owned yard-waste dump -- an incident that got at least two Solid Waste Management Department officials reassigned to other jobs.
Reassignments won't cut it this time, Stith said.
"You have people that are employed and expected to know the rules and regulations they're governed by. They didn't do that," he said. "The bare minimum was not done, and the moral obligation we have to protect the citizens broke down also."
Asked about Stith's comments, Baker said he'd wait on a review of the city's testing program by researchers at UNC's Water Resources Research Institute before "making decisions about the future of the department."
After reading it, "I'll make the changes that I think need to be made, based on fact and not speculation," Baker said, adding that the report should be ready by the end of the month.
Stith's council colleagues wouldn't join him Thursday in calling for dismissals, at least publicly.
Mayor Bill Bell said he assumes Baker eventually will "report on what, if any, action he's taken personnel-wise," because of the rule violation.
"This process isn't over yet, and we have to wait and see where it comes out," Bell said.
Councilman Eugene Brown said it's up to Baker to "take the necessary steps to get us back on track."
"The fire-at-the-landfill and the lead-in-the-water issues have certainly hurt our image with many citizens," he said. "We have to restore the public's trust."
Councilman Mike Woodard said he's given Baker his advice, and to the extent it involves personnel, doesn't intend to talk about it publicly.
"It doesn't help our staff or our citizens to have these kinds of conversations in the media," he said.
There are common threads, personnel-wise, to the city's recent problems.
The yard-waste fire and the lead problem emerged in departments that report to Baker through Deputy City Manager Ted Voorhees.
They and the other city operation to receive extensive scrutiny in the past year -- an investigation of the Duke lacrosse case that critics say police botched -- also emerged from departments with shaky or absentee leadership.
The Solid Waste Management Department acquired a permanent director only weeks before the fire broke out, after a long stretch under interim managers who lacked experience in the industry.
Police Chief Steve Chalmers was on leave dealing with a family illness as the lacrosse investigation unfolded last spring. And Water Management Director Terry Rolan, who's eligible for retirement, recently accepted a professional honor, the presidency of the American Water Works Association, that's had him out of town at key junctures of the lead controversy.
Council members who've voiced unhappiness about Chalmers' absences weren't any more pleased that Rolan wasn't around this week to discuss the lead violation. The director was out of town on an AWWA-related trip to India.
Baker "only knows what he's told," Councilman Howard Clement said. "I start with Terry Rolan, and he isn't here."

There’s just something about this Duke rape case that’s inspiring to rape apologists. The sheer amount of energy that’s going into rape apologies lately, not just for the Duke lacrosse team but in general, is breathtaking. Kathleen Parker has been writing about almost nothing else, but instead building a long case that unless the victim is 9 years old and a virgin and white and blonde and her attacker kills her and he mutiliates her body, then rape isn’t so much a crime as a feminist plot to put all men in jail so that we can, I don’t know, wear sweatpants more or something. If this was indeed our plot, we are some dumb motherf**kers, considering less than 16% of rapes result in charges and less than half of those result in any kind of punishment. We could certainly come up with a more efficient method if we wanted to of getting men in jail besides getting ourselves raped and then raising a fuss as if we had a right not to be raped.
... which does make her a correct selection choice for John Edwards.
Obviously, Amanda is hoping Kathleen Parker will talk about the John Edwards' blog or Le Amanda.
