Just caught a piece of this. There was a confrontation on the Mexican-Arizona border between the National Guard and "Mexicans dressed in combat/tactical gear and carrying rifles." Apparently the Guard had to retreat because it is not allowed to fire even when threatened on US soil.
Perhaps other Freepers have more details. If this is true, WTF are we doing about border security?
I heard about this on Rush. Why are they even there if they cannot do a job of protecting the borders???
Napolitano sent them there did she not? Is she up for re-election? This may be just some political posturing to save her bum...
This news is weeks old.
You mean it happened again? Or is Fox just now getting around to this story?
COL Canon:
Lock and Load!!!
What happens if these are "fake" illegal Mexicans who are really not and they are middle eastern men wanting to do harm to these border agents and/or our country?
It is as if our govt. is playing russian roulette with our agents.
Again????
I think FOX said the incident was the wee hours of Jan 3rd...
Only remarkable because the MSM ignored it completely...
Looks like reporting on the investigation of the border incursion earlier this month.
It's true, it happened 3 weeks ago in the Tucson Sector. The NG did exactly what their ROE spells out. They spotted 6 armed men moving on their position 100 yards from the border and notified BorderPatrol. When the armed group came within 75 yards they retreated to an alternate position and continued to monitor the groups movements. The group crossed back into Mexico before the Border Patrol arrived.
The NG did nothing wrong, it's the ROE they have been given that is the problem. These guys are out there with their butts hanging in the wind, and it's crap! Some of these OP's are manned by soldiers who have nothing but a radio and Night Vision Goggles. That is unacceptable.
Remember, Senor Bush is on the side of the illegal invaders, not on the "vigilantes"' side. The national guard should be allowed to do its job.

So, if 10,000 Mexicans dressed in military gear invaded the US and set up fortified camps, poured in artilery, missiles, tanks, etc., we would just let them be? Not fire on them?
This is truly something from the Twilight Zone. Sounds like a plan by our government to surrender to Mexico.
mmmmmmmm hard question but My guess would be...........probably.
I am glad Perry decided to start getting serious about illegals here in Texas. BUT our border is still wide open.
There is a legislator in Austin that is proposing amending the Constitution, no more anchorbaby citizenship born to illegals. He said it's been misinterpeted as to its original intent. Maybe that would be a deterrent to them coming in to have the little freeloader.
I never understood that concept. If you are born here you are a citizen. How, if the parents are here illegally, does that make you a legal citizen? Seems they all are here illegally. Just musing after reading your post.
We've already surrendered to Iran.
Whether she writes the ROE, or the feds do, it's worth finding out the details. The investigation began today in the AZ legislature, I'm sure prompting the media attention (finally).
According to the current interpretation of the 14th, yes, according to its original intent, no.
They didn't "retreat"...they "strategically redeployed".
I am presently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma AZ, which is where the NG responsible for the Yuma Sector are currently based. I have the opportunity to talk to these guys all the time. They use our Armory to store their weapons. One Sgt First Class told me most of their OP's are manned by unarmed Soldiers because their ROE's do not allow them to confront anyone crossing the border. They are to monitor and report only. OP 's manned by an officer or SNCO may have a weapon, as well as vehicle patrols. But once again the ROE makes those weapons useless. These guys have their hands tied behind their backs. When they call the Border Patrol, response time averages 15-20 minutes. What's wrong with this picture? What is gonna happen when one of these soldiers gets killed because the rules have hamstrung him? Will people wake up?
According to the current interpretation of the 14th, yes, according to its original intent, no.
"These are National Guard troops, under the command of Janet Napolitano, Democrat, Arizona."
Not a true statement, the troops comming to the Yuma sector have been from Knoxville TN, Charlotte NC, Provo UT, and Salem Or. All have been Federalized for this mission.
Nice to get it out in the open, isn't it?
Absolutely.
The borders are being obliterated in favor of the evil global tyrannical treasonous government.
Next question.
Do a search and you'll find lots of threads on this.
The only reason why the media, mostly fox news, is talking about it today is because there is a 'hearing' scheduled over it. There's also a thread about that too ;)

Link for information about todays hearings.
Yes it is. Too bad we haven't used these past weeks to put bouncing bettys on the border.
I can be certain as to what will happen....
The Governors of the border states will blame Bush.... Bear in mind the Katrina nonsense.... It will happen again... How could Bush be so blind?

There was a movie in the 70's called Viva Max about a washed up Mexican General who takes back the Alamo. He is hailed as a hero by the people of San Antonio. Meanwhile an American militia group called the Sentries are the bad guys.

Also in this movie, the State Dept. wants no one to get killed, so they send the Texas National Guard in with no ammunition. SOUND FAMILIAR?! The Mexicans win the "Mexican Stand-off" (they too left their ammunition in Mexico).
Well, since the "invading army" fired no shots, took no prisoners, damaged nothing, and left, I fail to see what benefit additional "weapons" could have had. And if the NG troops had opened fire instead of doing what they did, it would have been an international incident.
You don't just shoot people for walking into your country illegally. Well, the Soviet Union used to do that, as well as shooting people on the way out of their country (like the BP agents did). But most countries frown on shooting people just for crossing country boundaries.
How about protecting our guardsmen and our country.
And if the NG troops had opened fire instead of doing what they did, it would have been an international incident.
So what? Its already an international incident.
You don't just shoot people for walking into your country illegally.
You do if theyre armed. They have made their intent quite clear.
The administration had better rethink this, if one of these guardsmen gets killed and it is later learned that he had no ammo its going to very bad.
These drug cartels are bloodthirsty killers and they want their smuggling corridors back. As the pressure mounts so will the violence. Personally I am amazed they have not sniped or use an IED on the Guard or BP yet. Mark my words it will happen.
I actually don't think they are unarmed. They have handguns, I think all of them. There is ammo for the m-16s as well, I just don't think it is issued, because they aren't supposed to be in shooting wars, they are observers. We try not to allow our military to do police work.
The traitors within our gov't need to be impeached. Citizens must step up, speak out to their reps, and mean it when we say we've had enough.
We need to back you boys, and the NG up on the front lines. Not just in Iraq, but here on our US soil.
I suggest you don't try crossing into South Korea from the north. Or for trhat matter, into Mexico from the South.
I believe that when unarmed civilians manage to get across the border between North and South Korea, the escapees are treated as such. North Korea would probably shoot them if they had the chance, like Cuba would shoot escapees, and like East Germany.
Of course, in that example, the two countries are still in a state of war. We are not actually IN a state of war with Mexico. IF we declared war with Mexico, the rules of engagement would be changed, and shooting armed people would probably be the norm. However, even in wartime you can't shoot unarmed civilians.
I for one will not base my country's ethics on that of Mexico. Although if we passed a low allowing our BP agents to shoot people coming INTO our country if they are armed and carrying drugs, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.
Confirmation, anyone?
As much as it seems important to freepers to fight for securing our borders, there are much more important issues to be handled. I believe freepdom (me included) has allowed ourselves to be distracted with petty bickering from the real threat -- losing the war on terror due to the democrat majority.
I urge everybody involved to read the just-released Citizens Report on Iraq, an 80-something page compilation of why we are winning in Iraq, and what we need to do. I thank all the FR contributers to this document for putting it out for us, and for reminding us who the REAL enemy is.
If they make it through the minefields on both sides of the border....
