Probably because those States don't elevate the idea that vapid phony external beauty is what makes a great woman. I bet most of the women who enter those contests become eye candy for rich playboys or for companies (sales reps). That's a sad way to promote women, IMO.
From the time they announced the 52 contestants it was clear she was the most beautiful of the bunch, and the swimsuit and evening gown competition reinforced that. Her choice of song (You'll Be In My Heart) was a coup, I think.
Miss Mississippi was also very strong, but once she praised how her state's residents "pulled themselves up and helped each other" after Katrina, she was DOA. Never ever dare to speak the truth about New Orleans' helpless and shiftless wards of the state, in a public forum.

Yes, it's in Edmond, and is the Former Central State.
She is from Lawton Oklahoma, not really a favorite spot in Okla. It's the home of Fort Sill. They do artillery training there so you can imagine the country side isn't the nicest. The town is a faily rough. The only person I know of that ever moved to Lawton, a doctor friend, left after 2 years and had to start his practice over. He left because his wife couldn't stand the place.
Lauren attends UCO in Edmond. One of my employees goes to UCO and has friends that know her. They say she is a really nice young lady.
I've lived in Lawton for 25 years and I've managed to avoid the "rough" spots, and my wife has been happy here the entire time as well.
I live in Lauren's neighborhood, my daughters went to school with her, and I can guarantee there will be no scandals surrounding Lauren. She's as sweet as they can get.
