Congratulations to her. Lauren Nelson doesn't sound like your typical Miss America name. What's her middle name?

Where in Oklahoma is she from? She says she wants to be a Broadway actress. One of Broadway's biggest stars, Kristen Chenoweth, now starring in "The Apple Tree" (a delightful show), is from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma -- also the hometown of former Dodgers shortstop Bill Russell.

Top 5 finishers:

1. Miss Oklahoma
2. Miss Texas
3. Miss Georgia
4. Miss Mississippi
5. Miss Alabama

Hmmm, about the same as the college football season (usually).

Boomer Sooner!

I think Miss Oklahoma is very cute! As for Miss Georgia....that's the best they could do? Must be some really homley girls down there. Crikey!

Miss America in January?
How times have changed.

Was it even televised?

Sheesh. Why'd you have to say that? Next thing, someone will post that Hillary shot from a few weeks before the Monica/BJ scandal erupted.

Or someone will post the Chelsea swimming pool pics.

Yeah, Country Music Television. There was a switch of venues, TV channels and dates in recent times.

She has pretty hair though lol.

I agree. That one gets a pass, she's nothing more than lighting and makeup. I had a waitress bring me a steak tonight that was twice a beautiful as she is.

The pageant was tonight? I had no idea! It thought it was in the fall each year. I never saw one single promo for this on TV. Shows how much I pay attention.

Congrats to my fellow Sooner State person! *Oh-oh-oh-Oh!klahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain ...*

*You're doin' fine, Miss Oklahoma - Miss America, OK!*

I remember two Miss Mississippi Miss Americas in the 1960s or so, that I think were back to back - maybe Meriwether and Mobley? Or maybe they were just both Chi Omegas, like my mom.

LOL, ah gets muh history kinda mixed up these days.

Wasn't this contest in September every year?

It used to be. When did they decide to change it? It was first devised as a way to extend the tourist season in Atlantic City beyond the Labor Day Weekend.

I saw Kristen on the only episode of Megan Mulally's talk show that I ever accidentally caught (I guess I didn't blink) - and they did all sorts of cute Okie sketches and of course, sang Oklahoma!

It was a delight to just happen upon it, having met both when they were much younger in theatre productions in OKC.

I still get Kristen mixed up, though, with ummm, what's her name? Amy Sedaris - the one who tapes her nose up to look like a pig for laughs. If they're not standing side by side, I forget which one I'm watching and keep waiting for Kristen (who is much more serious, overall) to tape her nose up, lol!
