This looks like a candidate for the Armed Citizen thread, but shows the benighted state of the 2nd Amendment in MN.

What happened to "citizen's arrest"?
To: oursacredhonor
Unless your physical life is threatened, you should not take the law into your own hands, Sheriff Mike Ammend said.
You just committed career suicide buddy. Guess who won't be re-elected sheriff.

Interesting. We get two local papers (Cambridge and Isanti), and I don't remember seeing anything about this in either.
I've met Sheriff Ammend a few times, and voted for him twice. He's always struck me as a good, no-nonsense, commonsense guy. On the other hand, I don't know Mr. Englund.
I'll have to see if I can find out a bit more about the situation before I jump off the deep-end here. Just from what I read above, it doesn't strike me as a situation that warrants charges against Englund-- sounds like the kind of neighbor I'd want around!

To be sure, legal issues aside, this guy helped apprehend and wanted fugitive and felon. Ironically, he was released only to be arrested again on separate charges. What in the hell happened that they didn't realize that the "victim" here had a long criminal record and outstanding warrants?
I would be pressing the DA and the Sherrif for information on why this guy was released after the initial incident. Talk about negligence.

We still can change it back. Most people are sickened by these stories... when they learn about them.

The cops have told me that trespassing is not considered anything but a real minor violation. I agree if the person is only trespassing, then you must tread lightly.
I believe that on your own property you can always be armed, just conceal it. If the trespassing then turns into somthing serious you can defend yourself. In MD you can only defend yourself if you have nowhere left to run.
I would love to put this on the ballet and really mess up the liberal criminal lovers.

Sad but true.
One more reason to keep very reliable and powerful firearms.

The Sheriff & the county prosecutor should dust off the job interview skills cause anybody with half a brain is gonna use this in the next election.

Don't ya know that the cops are the only ones qualified to make an arrest? /s Why is it that it could be a week or two after a robbery that a video of the robbery is shown and they ask for public help in identifying the thief?

Now if you look at an officer or say "How are you", or say "why" to them you question their authority. This I learned the hard way.
can't even wave to them. had my car searched because the cop thought the reason i waved was because i thought i was getting away with something.

i tried. MI law is so jacked full of stupid "probable cause" scenarios that no one can drive without being subject to being pulled over.
that includes driving with one hand, driving without shoes, obstuction of view (anything hanging from mirror, sunglasses too thick), smoking, drinking, talking on cell, 1mph over or under, etc.
i didn't get a ticket or anything, just got delayed.

You don't need probable cause to search. Probable cause only applies for a cop to arrest. You might be confusing probably cause with reasonable suspicion- two diffeent things.

I used to think the police were the good guys too. Now I just hope that they might, possibly, if I'm really lucky, be neutral. But I don't expect it.
