Natural Oils Gave Young Boys Breasts

Natural oils gave young boys breasts

22:00 31 January 2007

Andy Coghlan

Three young boys grew breast tissue after exposure to lotions and shampoos containing lavender or tea tree oil, researchers say.

It is not uncommon for boys to develop breast tissue during puberty or just after, but the boys affected by the plant oils were aged four, seven and 10.

The natural oils may be “gender-bending” chemicals mimicking effects of the female hormone, oestrogen, the findings suggest. The boys were otherwise normal, and lost the breast tissue within months of discontinuing use of the products.

Researchers who identified the oils as the cause of the abnormalities in the three pre-pubertal boys have warned parents and doctors to beware of the effects of any toiletry products containing the oils.

“If consumers are concerned about exposure to lavender or tea tree oil, they should talk to their physicians,” says Derek Henley of the US National Institute of Health Sciences labs in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, US. “Now that physicians are aware of the problem, they can document cases,” adds Henley, whose team identified the oils as the probable cause in three affected boys.

Oestrogen mimics

In follow-up lab tests on breast cells, they confirmed that the oils act both as oestrogen mimics, and as suppressors of masculinising hormone signals. “These are definitely the first substances to show a combination of oestrogen mimicry and anti-androgenic activity,” says Henley.

Should have applied this stuff to the 12 year old kid in Germany who underwent a sex change before his penis and testicles were cut off.

Wow, just about every baby wash manufacturer has a lavender-based sleepytime product. I would think there is more risk from estrogen in chicken products than in lavender & tea tree oil.

Aw you beat me to it.

But I don't think they've done any surgery yet. They're just giving him female hormones. Poor thing.

Oh wow!

Imagine the money transvestites can save when they finally make up their mind in what they want to be - male or female! Or a "she man" won't have to mess around with hormones.

They aren't going to cut him till he's 18. Might as well though, since they are pumping him full of hormones so he won't have to shave and will grow boobies.

Pretty much the same abuse, isn't it?

I think Nadler's goal is more of a Jabba-the-hut type of goal, not a gender goal.

Changing subjects, but the temperature in Nashville was about 34 degrees at the most today and a PETA bunch is in Nashville demonstrating against the Cattleman's meeting there this week. A PETA girl has herself all painted up with barbecue colors and is positioned on a grill (a fake one), two-thirds naked and shivering to show solidarity with beef and to protest against cruelty to animals. It's pretty cruel to that woman to subject her to that sort of exposure. Made me hungry for a big old steak for supper.

I forget which thread it was in, but I read here the other day that someone said soy oils can do the same thing.

I have no idea if its true but this would lead someone to believe that it may be correct.

A lot of cancer survivors avoid soy because it is high in phyto-estrogens which can aggravate existing cancers or possibly spur metastasis. I wonder how well-known is this information about tea tree oil and lavender.

Wow, just about every baby wash manufacturer has a lavender-based sleepytime product.

Sometimes my wife uses such a product in our son's bath. He's 2, almost 3. So far I haven't noticed such a problem, but thanks for the warning.

Actually I have been worried in the other direction. The other day we noticed he was trying to unlock the bathroom door from the outside. When asked what he was doing he said that our 16 year-old babysitter was taking a shower and he was hoping to see her naked. When he heard the babysitter was coming over to stay he told people that his girlfriend was spending the night. He has said a lot of similar things expressing an eye for women. Everyone laughs but I'm starting to wonder if it is normal at his age.

I always thought there was a problem with the tendency to put everything but the kitchen sink into stuff. I deplore nutrition labeling which exacerbated if not started the soy mania. It is getting more and more difficult to find products without soy protein added.
I also- also due to allergies- stay away from the various toiletries which contain a hodgepodge of plant extracts.
