Parties Mocking Blacks Spark Outrage

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- White students at Tarleton State University in Texas hold a party in which they dress in gang gear and drink malt liquor from paper bags. A white Clemson University student attends a bash in blackface over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. A fraternity at Johns Hopkins University invites partygoers to wear "bling bling" grills, or shiny metal caps on their teeth.
From Connecticut to Colorado, "gangsta" theme parties thrown by whites are drawing the ire of college officials and heated complaints from black and white students who say the antics conjure the worst racial stereotypes.
University officials, the NAACP and others have condemned the parties as insulting and inexcusable under any circumstances. At the same time, some black academics said they were not surprised, given the popularity of rap music among inner-city blacks and well-to-do suburban whites alike.

It's sort of like those black comedians that mock white peoples voices and mannerisms. Only that's ok, while the other is not. /sarc

Yet it's somehow okay when Dave Chappelle dresses up in whiteface and makes fun of white people.

"It's sort of like those black comedians that mock white peoples voices and mannerisms."
Or like the bit I herad on XM yesterday.
The black comedian was commenting on the new president (Clinton at the time) and commented that it would be nice to have a black president.
He then launched into all the bad things the black president should do to whites including beating them and making them change their names.
The material was not so disturbing as the loud cheers of "YEAH!!" and many other shouts of approval from the black audience-members. My wife commented, "Oh my God, they REALLY hate us."

Of course, it's perfectly okay for two black guys to make a major Hollywood movie where they portray ditzy blonde white women like in the movie "White Chicks."
To: kiriath_jearim
I don't see what the big deal is. White stereotypes are mocked every day on prime time television.

I did think the girl that padded her rear to resemble a black woman's was funny, though. Baby got back!!

fear of bodily harm, could it?

The Left will gloss over Joe BIden - only the right can be racist. If GW or someone had made this comment they would have been crucified. There is a certain amount of truth to the statement (not that I support or trust Obama) but compared to Jackson and Sharpton... you see what he means.

You might know better than me - I really do not have any interest in rap, I just did a quick Google-Image search under "bling" and this was the most outrageous image I could find.

South Park addressed that in the "Vote Or Die" episode. A PETA freak threw paint on P.Diddy's white fur. You can guess how his posse responded, though the exact caliber was not specified.

Tupac Shakur was actually pretty much of a genius at what he did. You can hate the art form, but the man had talent. I hate country, but I won't deny there have been some talented performers in its history and that if the Library of Congress is categorizing culture, they belong.
Also, it's worth noting that Shakur had some songs ("Only God Can Judge Me" and "Life Goes On") come to mind, that included some ideas one might not expect...such as taking responsibility for one's kids. There were other lines that sound more like Bill Cosby (or Chris Rock) than a stereotypical rapper.

Sorry, Tupac was a wannabe.
