Giuliani Would Defeat Hillary in New Jersey (Quinnipiac alert)
angus-reid.com ^ | 1/31/2007 | Staff

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the favourite Republican United States presidential contender for voters in the Garden State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 48 per cent of respondents in New Jersey would vote for Giuliani in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In other match-ups, Rodham Clinton holds a one-point edge over Arizona senator John McCain, and a 24-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. McCain leads former North Carolina senator John Edwards by six points, and Illinois senator Barack Obama by three points.

In 2004, Democratic nominee John Kerry carried New Jersey’s 15 electoral votes, with 53 per cent of the vote. No Republican has won the Garden State since George H. Bush in 1988.

Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Polling Data

If the 2008 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were (the Democrat) and (the Republican), for whom would you vote?

Rudy Giuliani (R) 48% - 41% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 43% - 44% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
Mitt Romney (R) 29% - 53% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 45% - 39% John Edwards (R)
John McCain (R) 42% - 39% Barack Obama (R)

(sic) re: all the erroneous "(R)" designations.

Source: Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Methodology: Telephone interviews to 1,310 registered Ohio voters, conducted from Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, 2006. Margin of error is 2.7 per cent.

Nothing will make such a vote "palatable", I fear.

LOL! Wait until some NJ posters come to this thread to tell you they'll NEVER for Rudy and this poll is _________ and __________ and he can't win NJ.

I'm in Jersey and won't vote for Rudy. However, remember the other night when I claimed that Rudy would have a chance here if he were the nominee? If I recall correctly, you were writing him off for winning NJ.

VP Cheney was from Wyoming. I don't think it matters as much as it used to before the age of the internet and 24/7 TV coverage. I think she will go for Richardson being Hispanic and the Clintons have the goods on him with Monica so he will be Mr. Puppet!

I think it would be a colossal mistake (and I'm understating the case here) to promote a pro-abortion, pro-gay, social liberal with an anti gun record as the best possible person to run for the presidency on the Republican ticket.

Good words, neighbor. I usually avoid the Rudy threads mainly because I'm sick of the same poster complaints about the same issues. Rudy may not be my dream candidate Dick Cheney, but I want someone who is tough enough to beat any Rat in the race. I think Rudy can do that.

You're right, too, about this area. Voters in NY/NJ/CT would chose Rudy over the Pantsuit (or the other lightweights) in a heartbeat. It's like offering them a choice between tickets to a Yankee game or the ballet; a nice dish of macaroni or foie gras.

Worth repeating. Pray we never get to that point...

Okay, YOU tell us HOW you rescue 1,000s of people above where the planes went through the buildings, with flames and thick smoke roaring upwards. And no, they could NOT land helicopters on the roofs.

LOL! Wait until some NJ posters come to this thread to tell you they'll NEVER for Rudy and this poll is _________ and __________ and he can't win NJ. Hey genius. We tried running warmed-over Democrat-lites here in NJ. Guess what? They all got toasted by like 14%.

Rudy would go down badly here in NJ. Why? Because a significant portion of the former Republican base--out in the wilderness since 2001 when the party leadership stabbed us in the back--won't come home for a liberal Republican.

Yes, Cheney was from Wyoming but the Bush family had Texas and Florida covered. The electoral map must be played carefully in 2008.

Believe me, should he get the Republican nomination, we would be insane not to elect him over a Democrat.

We would be insane to allow Rudy to get the nomination in the first place.

Let's look somewhere else. We have time.

Rudy went after the thugs and gang bangers who have and sell ILLEGAL guns

According to the 2nd Amendment, there is no such thing as an "illegal gun".

in fact, the way I see this race playing out right now - I currently give Hillary a 6 in 10 chance of winning in 2008.

she may well even be able to essentially run - unopposed. the conservative and right to lifers are busy taking down the top republican candidates, leaving us with a bunch of litmus test pure unknowns.

we barely won the elections in 2000 and 2004 - with a well known candidate, who had a well known family name, "pure" on the social issues, a religious man himself, plenty of money, running once as the incumbent. that formula - got us a 537 vote one state win and popular vote loss in 2000, and a one state win where a 65K vote swing could have given it to someone like Kerry in 2004.

so I'm supposed to believe that Hillary cannot possibly win in 2008?
