House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is pressing the White House for routine access to military aircraft for not only herself and her staff, but for relatives and other members of the California delegation as well.
A knowledgeable Washington, D.C. source called the request "carte blanche for an aircraft any time."
Another source told the Washington Times: "They are pressing the point of her succession and that the [Department of Defense] needs to play ball with the speaker's needs.”
The request originally went to the Pentagon, which passed it along to the White House.
Pelosi's request for military aircraft access is not the first from a speaker, who is second in line in presidential succession.
The speaker gained regular access to military planes after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Rep. J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., who was speaker at the time, began using U.S. Air Force planes for travel to and from his district for security reasons. But a former aide told the Times that Hastert did not use military planes to regularly transport his family, and Pelosi's request goes beyond what Hastert received.
Pelosi has used military aircraft for at least one trip back to her San Francisco district.
U.S. Air Force travel for members of Congress is first-rate, according to the Times. The aircraft are staffed with stewards who serve meals and tend an open bar, and communications suites allow members to conduct business while traveling.

There has to be an old C-47 out in the desert in mothballs that Nancy and company can have. Or maybe General Mac's old B-17, Bataan, is still around someplace.
The ONLY military aircraft she should be allowed as a passenger are DRONES.....
Dont think for one minute Nancy wants access to flights. What she wants is her own Gulfstream and two pilots at her beck and call. She has no intention of flying with the Hoy palloy.
On second thought, due to Kalifornia's over-whelming energy concerns, she ought to ask for government gliders, or weather balloons.....

For matters of national security - for instance, being flown to safety after 9/11 - I have no problem with this.
Also, if it saves a few taxpayer bucks - for instance, she thumbs a ride on a military flight deadheading back to DC from San Francisco - I think that it makes sense as well.
BUT, this sounds like she wants to totally misappropriate taxpayer $$...
And the Rats said Newt could get off at the rear entrance. Pelosi should take a cab.....on her own dime.
Those that feed at the taxpayer trough only grow hungrier for move.
In a sane world, Senators and Congrescritters' pay, expenses, etc. would be borne by their respective states or districts and governed by their legislatures.
Under normal conditions I would embrace your proposal with glee! But, because the democrats are never satisfied with a good thing (you really do have a good idea) it would be no time at all before the begin that cry for better treatment. Just like she is doing now.
Sorry, but I have to give preference to the broom idea.
