I don't know about anyone else, but I am still waiting for Michael Schiavo to make a correction on his blog about what "actually" took place in Colorado when he went there (to the debate) to supposedly ask Congresswoman Musgrave one question and she and her staff supposedly tried to have him removed. He called it, "My unreal night in Colorado - with radio link" (Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 08:05:14 PM PST). I'll say (from what I read) that it was his "unreal night".
As I said before in "Standing up and Admitting a Mistake: Not Schiavo's Style?", if four uniformed officers were around my seat, I would have some idea of what was going on. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in "duh mode" to only be told later of what took place right there around me, as Michael suggests he was. If Michael's account is realistic -- his response and reaction is not. Nor is his response appropriate now that he has "learned" what he was "allegedly told" is not what took place. One would think if he can't get the words out that he was mistaken, he could at least have removed the inaccurate entry from his blog.
He has done neither.
I'm also still waiting to read about, "Also, maybe tomorrow I'll post about my election-eve rally with Bill Clinton in Florida." (A real election impact by Michael Schiavo, Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 10:40:34 AM PST). Indeed, I would love to read that story by Michael, since I read it was not possible. Not if he was implying it was the Bill Clinton that is the former President of the United States. Will be interesting to see what he says about that if he ever does.
If Michael couldn't get it straight what happened at the Musgrave debate or even if he spent election-eve with former President Bill Clinton -- do you suppose he might have gotten Terri Schiavo's wishes mixed-up as well? (He does claim to have a bad memory from what I read.) Makes one wonder. At least makes me wonder. Whatever...
I'm still waiting for the corrections if not the explanations!

Let no one say America is a death-denying society. Our newspapers are full of articles reporting on battles over how we die. The Terri Schiavo controversy was not a blip of newsworthy gruesomeness on the pages of otherwise cheerful publications. Schiavo's story replicated others, on and off the front pages, that have been going on for more than 30 years. Death, once again, is changing in America, and we have been arguing about how to handle these changes since they began decades ago.
Euthanasia Confusion... Newspaper accounts of end-of-life debates too often muddle the issues.

On Jan. 22, Washington, D.C., lent the national spotlight to 100,000 pro-life advocates in the 34th Annual March for Life. Present at the march and opening rally were 29 Boston College students, as well as the Rev. Tony Corcoran, S.J., a member of BC's Jesuit community.
The theme of the 2007 march was "Thou Shalt Protect the Equal Right to Life of Each Innocent Human in Existence at Fertilization - No Exception! No Compromise!" In keeping with the spirit of this message, Chris Rakovec, A&S '10, stated his reason for supporting the pro-life cause in Washington: "I went to give witness to the dignity of human life."

As hard as it may be to accept, Michael Shiavo was her husband and had every right to make the decisions for Terri.
If I was in the same position, I probably would have deferred to the parents plea for their daughter, however other husbands will be thankful in the future that this debacle didn't eviscerate husbands rights.
Al Gore has started a movement. No matter how you view it, at this moment Americans are approaching the tipping point in their desire to find ways to reduce greenhouse gases.
The knee-jerk reaction from the right wing is comical. It reeks of desperation. Once again, they claim to be our shield from international organizations, multi-lateralists, one-world government, humanists and secularists – their tired old masks to put a monkey wrench in Al Gore’s message.
I sense this movement is a runaway train, and the right will be left standing bewildered at the station. The reaction from a majority of Americans will be the same as when the right wing interfered in the Terry Schiavo case. Butt out! We can handle it.

It wasn't much about husband's rights, but was very much about a successful killing that took fifteen years to achieve, putting O.J.'s feeble trial to shame.

This is the same country that committed an act of war against the United States by holding an Air Force crew hostage in 2001, and that is brandishing its nuclear missiles at our West Coast. It is also the country that allegedly gave illegal campaign contributions to Bill Clinton and Albert Gore, so Gore should be a little more careful about screaming "He betrayed this country!"

As I've said before, I don't think Mikey was confused at all about what Terri's wishes were. The fact of the matter was that Terri's wishes didn't coincide with his desire to see her dead. We can speculate as to his motivations (and many of our visitors love to give him the benefit of the doubt), but we cannot ignore the simple truth that everything he did from the time of her accident onwards was designed to ensure that she NEVER GOT BETTER AND WOULD EVENTUALLY DIE.
Terri Schiavo won a malpractice lawsuit against the doctors and hospital that originally treated her. Her estranged husband (and when a man is living with another woman and having children with her, he is estranged from his wife regardless of her condition) was obligated under the settlement to use the money for her rehabilitation. He NEVER DID THIS, instead he spent the money on legal battles to kill her.
The strawman arguments that Michael Schaivo didn't really need to comply with his legal obligation to get medical treatment for his wife are not very different from the arguments we heard four years ago about how UN mandates against Saddam Hussein really didn't need to be enforced.
Do you suppose Michael Schiavo will ever tell us what happened to Terri that fateful night in 1990? He has told several different, conflicting stories -- under oath -- and is also known to have lied to police investigators. Why? What is he hiding? Why is he so scared of the truth?
Michael's supporters are staking their own intellectual reputation on a proven liar.

What was the most likely scenario for that fateful night? I am trying to recall the scene of that night, but do not have all the details at hand this moment.
I recall she was upset at his treatment, his obsession with her odometer and was in otherwise fine health until she was found on the floor.

Then I'm sure they feel right at home when they meet him.
I was thinking last week when the person in Sacramento died from water intoxication after the radio contest that Mikey would probably try to resurrect the "she drank several gallons of iced tea" nonsense.
That's precisely why civil rights attorney Wendy Murphy deemed him to be a "fraud on the court" in 1993. She called the Greer court's integrity into question for even listening to him later.
Only years later, at the autopsy, did some people learn people that the basis for the 1992 malpractice suits -- the doctors' supposed failure to diagnose bulimia -- was fraudulent too. The medical examiner ruled out bulimia as the cause of Terri's so-called collapse. You have to read the autopsy report because you won't hear it from the media. (This was not a mystery. Long before the autopsy, we ruled out bulimia here, too. It made no medical sense)
In other words, knowing that Terri had never suffered from bulimia, Michael sued innocent doctors for malpractice and collected a multi-million dollar settlement. I don't believe the MSM have ever reported this.
One other detail worth mentioning. Bulimia was Michael's only alibi. Now he has no alibi.
It's very hard to drink too much iced tea when you're asleep. (Michael did confirm that she was asleep.)
He no longer needs an alibi, he's like OJ he got away with it and no longer needs to concern himself with consequences. Actually, he's even worse than OJ in one regard, Schiavo killed his wife while the entire world watched and many of them applauded him for it.
Her husband was Michael Schiavo. It is best to know how to spell the protagonist's name when you discuss the case with more knowledgeable people.
You are mistaken about his rights in the matter, too. The guardian may not make medical decisions for his ward. Neither guardians nor judges are qualified or licensed to practice medicine. (There are certain exceptions if the guardian is a physician but they do not apply here.) Also note that a ward (Terri) is under state protection. The laws do not permit guardians to make decisions that would cause death or harm to the ward.
So he may think. He sees himself, justly enough, as under the protection of the one-track media. But the media can be a fickle mistress. They can turn on you in an instant. He hasn't learned that part yet.
Meanwhile, he has no alibi in the court of history. That court is in session even now, and will be hearing the evidence centuries after his media shills and the rest of us are gone. (People do not forget great injustices.) In the court of history, Michael is literally damned forever. His only way out is repentance and confession.
That's his only way out before God, too, needless to say.

I suppose that's what caused the compression fracture of her spine, the broken ribs, the bruised femur, trauma to her knees and ankles, and a pressure injury to her neck.
There's a perfectly good fascist explanation for that -- her injuries were self-inflicted.
That could well be all her fault in his eyes. Maybe he said, "See, look what you made me do."
You know if they made Terri's story one of these "Lifetime Original Movies" and changed the names, the feminazis would be up in arms about what a monster Michael is.

You mean a single judge who didn't follow the law and then had the audacity to ignore a Congressional subpoena?
I find it extremely ironic that FReepers who in all other areas seem to be aware of judicial activism/misconduct had no problem lining up behind Greer's utter disregard for the law.
The case was based on privacy rights, not on the guardian's right to make decisions for his ward as you wrongly explained it.
I don't think that's a "maybe." It is the classic self-justification of a sociopath. When Michael finally did succeed in "punishing" her, he put "I kept my promise" on her memorial.
We have some facts and clues to consider.
1) Nobody else was present
2) The coroner ruled out the "bulimia" story that Michael had used as an alibi. Now he has no alibi.
3) Michael is known to have lied to the police who came to investigate, and has given different, inconsistent accounts of what happened.
4) The hospital could not find any natural cause for Terri's condition or injuries.
5) Terri suffered internal injuries that were comparable to being in a bad auto wreck -- except she wasn't in one.
6) Terri and Michael were known to have been fighting heatedly all that day.
7) Terri's blood tests showed at least two highly abnormal results associated with being assaulted.
8) Statistically, domestic violence, by husbands and boy friends, is the #1 cause of death and injury to young women.
Do we have any answers to this mystery?
And let's not forget the most important FACT:
Had Terri received rehabilitation as the court ordered, it is entirely possible that she would have recovered and been able to clear all of this up. Of course, if there was "foul play" involved, the perpetrator would not have wanted her to recover and may have even taken other steps (i.e. starvation and dehydration) to prevent her from ever recovering.
Well, there you go. The Shiavo case is over. OJ's case is over. Move on.
Shooting a healthy person in the back of the head to harvest his or her organs (Chinese standard operating procedure) is not euthanasia.
(But I bet they are...).

Also known as "mercy killing," euthanasia is distinguished from suicide by the necessary participation of a third party, typically either a physician or family member.
But something can be said for the Chinese method.
It is a whole lot more merciful and painless than the usual killings here and abroad we call euthanasia, such as dehydration.
Here, for spare parts, we declare the "donors" "brain dead" and let the harvest begin.

The legal case is still open, the medical examiner's report is still open and the Court of History is just now convened, and is likely to investigate and discuss the case for hundreds of years. You may move on if you wish, or if you'd like to discuss the case, why don't you start by giving me a factual answer to my question in #42?
