Bernard Lewis: 'The Iranians Do Not Expect to be Attacked'

Yes, Iran Can Be Stopped

  • The Weekly Standard argued that Iran's nuclear project can probably be stopped by significantly cutting its oil income.

Iran President: To Celebrate Nuclear Program 'Stabilization'

  • Dow Jones Newswires reported that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday that Iran will celebrate the "stabilization" of its nuclear program as early as next week - a comment believed to mean Tehran will announce the start of installing 3,000 centrifuges at its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz.

Iran President Seen Trying to Deflect Criticism

  • Reuters reported that Iran's president has reminded Iranians that matters such as nuclear policy are ultimately decided by the supreme leader not him.

Iraqi PM: Iran attacks US forces in his country

  • IranMania reported that Iraq's Prime Minister says Iran is targeting US forces in his country and he wants it to stop.

Iran's Economic Crisis

  • The New York Sun reported that Iran's civil society is experiencing major breakdowns, the country's reformist press and Web loggers are reporting. Signs of growing economic instability include high inflation, rising prices, food shortages, and long lines at gas stations.

Iran's New Energy Picture

  • Middle East Economic Survey argued that (a) the reports of steep reservoir erosion and Iran’s inability to produce its OPEC quota are highly exaggerated, if not fundamentally flawed, even if the alleged decline of crude oil exports in the coming years were to be true, the reasons would have to be sought in wrong policies rather than in deficient geology; and © assuming the fall in both oil production and exports to be the case, the gloomy prospects could still hardly provide a full justification for nuclear energy development as an economically viable alternative – given Iran’s overall energy endowments.

France's Chirac Tries to Sabotage Iran Sanctions

  • Kenneth R. Timmerman, NewsMax reported that French President Jacques Chirac is attempting to sabotage U.S.-led efforts to apply economic and diplomatic pressure on Iran, according to a report by the center-left French daily, Le Monde.
  • Reuters reported that French President Jacques Chirac has said it would not be very dangerous for Iran to have a nuclear bomb, but later retracted the remark.

Nazanin is free!!!

  • Help Nazanin reported that Nazanin had a very emotional reunion with her family members. She could not believe that this day had arrived. She cried in her mothers arms and took turns embracing her siblings and father.
  • Help Nazanin published photos and a brief report on Nazanin's release from prison today.

Here are a few other news items you may have missed.

  • Michael Ledeen, National Review Online argued that it appears we are continuing to stagger and blither our way toward the inevitable decision about Iran.
  • Dick Morris, Frontpagemag.com argued that there is a risk that our struggle against Iran will come to be seen by the American people as a subset of the war in Iraq, a bit like Cambodia was a subset of the war in Vietnam. If challenging Iran comes to symbolize an escalation of the war in Iraq, it will soon lose public support and become tainted with the tar which smears our work in Iraq.
  • Jonah Goldberg, Los Angeles Times reported that Wesley Clark says the United States is going to attack Iran. How does he know? Well, he told Arianna Huffington, "You just have to read what's in the Israeli press. The Jewish community is divided, but there is so much pressure being channeled from the New York money people to the office seekers" that the U.S. government will have to attack Iran.
  • Aish.com published this video: Stand up to Ahmadinejad.

They are counting on France, Russia, and others to come to their aid. Just like Iraq.

Outstanding interview with Bernard Lewis.

Take out the nuclear threat by aiding the people in changing the regime.

Thus far this administration is willing to allow Iran to kill our people in Iraq without so much as a wimper--let alone shock and awe.

Behold the self-professed new Hitler rigorously pursuing the nuclear means to erase Israel and bring down the Great Satan.

While our president pursues diplomatic means?

Please note the conquest of Europe by Muslims is proceeding apace, accelerated by multiculturalism, tolerance, and no perceivable patriotism, morals, faith, self-respect.

The president delays at great peril, having lost the bicameral congress, the pr battle, the popular mandate.

What if Ahmadinejad is in place January 20, 2009?

Russia has completed deliveries of Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran, RIA Novosti reports. "We have supplied modern anti-aircraft short-range missile systems under a contract," Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has said, adding that Iran "is not under any sanctions" and that Russia will continue to develop military and technical cooperation with Tehran. Russia supplied 29 Tor-M1 systems to Iran under a $700 million contract signed at the end of 2005.

[Do you think the warranty will cover our defeating these systems? Will Putin cheerfully refund Ahmadinejad's money?]

Russia will continue to develop military and technical cooperation with Tehran.

So he (Sadat) took the very courageous step of ordering the Soviet specialists out of Egypt, facing the danger they might do what they did in Czechoslovakia or Hungary. They didn't, fortunately. Then he hoped that Washington would help him, instead of which Washington produced the Vance-Gromyko Agreement, a sort of diplomatic carve up, in effect giving Egypt back to the Soviets. That was [former president Jimmy] Carter's real contribution to the peace process. All the rest of it is imaginary; imaginary is the polite word.

Good ole Jimmuh. He's pretty much 100% in the dumb moves column.
