He essentially said he was more proud that they won by running the team on Christian principles, not that he was more proud of Christ. There is a subtle difference.

I agree. Dungy did not say "blackness" and he didn't say "Christ", he referred to being 'African American Christians and doing it the Lord's way'. I don't think the person who gave it that title meant to cause all this controversy, but it would have been better had they used the exact words used by Dungy. We have so many MSM reporters adding to or omitting words that do change the meaning, so it would be better to use the exact quote IMO.

Interestingly, Bloomberg News used this part of Dungy's quote: "I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American coach to win this," Dungy said as he accepted the Vince Lombardi Trophy in a postgame ceremony. "That means an awful lot to our country." They deliberately left out the emphasis of his remarks. They should have given his complete quote in order for readers to get the significance of what he said. Words have meaning, and to omit them in this report is inexcusable.
