Space shuttle astronaut arrested at OIA on attempted kidnapping, battery charges
Orlando Sentinel ^ | February 5, 2007 | Henry Pierson Curtis

A NASA astronaut is charged with attacking her rival for another astronaut's attention early Monday at Orlando International Airport, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

Lisa Marie Nowak drove from Texas to meet the 1 a.m. flight of a younger woman who had also been seeing the male astronaut Nowak pined for, according to Orlando police.

Nowak -- who was a mission specialist on a Discovery launch last summer -- was wearing a trench coat and wig and had a knife, BB pistol, rubber tubing and plastic bags, reports show. Once U.S. Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman arrived, Nowak followed her to the airport's Blue Lot for long-term parking, tried to get into Shipman's car and doused her with pepper spray, according to reports.

Nowak's biography shows she is a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis with a degree in aerospace engineering, and a former test pilot who has logged more than 1,500 hours of flight in at least 30 types of aircraft.

Bet her future cellmate, Shawonda the pimp-stabbing crack ho, will be duly impressed.

Don't astronauts go through psychological screening?

How silly of me to have forgotten that. Why of course we all stuff pepper spray and bb guns in our trenchcoats and keep a supply of diapers on hand just in case the journey is long.

Man, she's gonna' take some heat at the office.

So, I wonder what happens when QUALIFICATIONS are substituted for ALCU goals of equality?

This makes NASA look even more foolish than they are. They've lost 2 Shuttles (half the fleet), they smashed the Mars Lander into the surface of Mars because they couldn't manage to keep Kilometers/hr and Miles/hour straight, and they are flying a raving psychotic (with multi-million dollar training behind her). And this didn't show up in any psychological testing?

I'd wager a 2007 nickel that the standards used for men, are not used for women (intellectually, physically or psychologically). And that is a shame.

Terminate NASA, and start fresh in a year or two; after they have sorted all of the Federal driftwood out of the system.

I didn't know you could be a meth head and still be an astronaut. Oh well, more proof of the rule that nobody looks good in a mugshot (except that one of Tom DeLay)

I guess this is one of those "You don't have to make this stuff up" stories. Pretty bizzaro!

I thought astronauts had to take a whole mess of psych tests.
She must have been out buying pampers that day.

Rumor has it that this winsome young lass was the object of the astronaut's wandering affection:

I flunked all of NASA's psychological screening tests.

Interestingly, I passed the CIA's psychological screening with flying colors. The mystery guy who recruited me said I 'fit the profile better than anyone else he had ever met.'

Whatever that means. ;-)

At least the fight didn't begin AFTER they were launched into space on the shuttle, someone might have taken an unscheduled space "walk".
