Sir Winston Churchill, who today would be considered the master of the one-liner, understood politicians extremely well. With this simple, timeless, but quite accurate statement, Churchill captures todays liberal Democrats in the American Congress without ever meeting any of them: When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber.

I don't think we can win a war with the enemey within given free reign. At least in the cold war we had secrets we kept, and spys were hung. Now spys print our secrets in the NY Times and suffer no punishment, and half our legislature is dedicated to the proposition that our failure is a very important goal to achieve.
With no plausible scenario to silence and defeat the parrots I think we are effectively neutered as a force for good.
That is one spectacular essay. Thanks for posting it.
