As the Girl Scouts drift further and further towards politically correctness and amorality, the BSA continues to hold true to its founding ideals, despite the torrent of contempt and hatred spewed upon it from the American Left.
God bless Lord Robert Baden-Powell and William D. Boyce.

Happy Birthday BSA!!!

Some of my happiest moments of childhood involved Boy Scouts. The BSA helped me become the person I am today. It helped teach me leadership, respect, honor, environmental conservation, patriotism and so many other things.

I still proudly boast that I am an Eagle Scout on my resume some 15 years after earning it.

Thanks, RonF, for the reminder.

Happy birthday, BSA! My wishes for many, many more!

Scouting was a significant positive influence in my youth.

Serving as an adult leader was an honor and also great fun.

Participating in merit badge pow-wows is a blast.

Pelosi is selected by her Partisan Peers for the Speaker's Chair. If she is no longer the Speaker, someone else is selected, no loss to the Country. When Spiro Agnew resigned, the Speaker did not move up to fill the seat, President Nixon and he alone selected Gerald Ford to fill the Vice President's position. The Speaker is in the second position only for the horrible occasion that both the President and Vice President are lost at the same time.

A righteous organization much beset by the forces of amoral humanism these days. Yet they remain a bulwark, an anachronism in a culture of declining vision and burgeoning turpitude.

Scouts have a right to be proud. And the parents of Scouts should be saluted for their support as well.

Well done, lads. Well done.

Cub Scouts...Pack 37 South Lebanon, Oh.
Boy Scouts...Troop 37 South Lebanon, Oh.

Life Scout 1976

(raises right hand and gives the Scout sign)

On my honor
I will do my best
To do my duty
To God and my country
To obey the Scout Law
To keep myself physically strong
Mentally awake
and morally straight.

A Scout is...Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly,
Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave,
Clean and Reverent.

If there are better rules to live by(except the Bible),
I have yet to see them.

Happy 97th To the Boy Scouts

Speaking of which, anyone who knows of Scouts 18 or older who need a summer job, Philmont is still trying to fill '07 positions. Info and applications are at the website.

Let's see:

Cub Scout, 1960 - 1963, Pack 29, Franklin MA
Boy Scout, 1963 - 1967, Troop 33, Franklin MA
1967 - 1972, Troop 346, Oak Forest, IL
Life Rank, PL, SPL, JASM, OA Ordeal, Camp Staff at Camp Child, Buzzards Bay, MA and Owassippe Scout Reservation, Whitehall, MI, High Adventure Matagamon Canoe Base, Maine

Cubmaster, 9/92 - 3/97, Pack 69, Burr Ridge, IL
Scoutmaster 3/97- 8/04, Troop 69, Burr Ridge, IL
Asst. SM 8/04 - Present, Troop 69
Committee Member, 3/97 - Present, Pack 69
Advisor, Crew 69 - Just started
District Committee at large, 2000 - 2005
District Commissioner 2005 - Present
"... and a good old Eagle, too" C-19-96
"... and a good old Staffer, too" C-31-04
OA Brotherhood, 1994
Event Director, Klondike Camporee, 2001 - 2005

But most importantly, my son is a member of the Eagle Class of 2004.

A couple of you mentioned that you are just starting out. When my son started in his Cub Scout Pack I started out as Cubmaster, as the previous Cubmaster had quit after being inactive for months and my wife had blabbed that I'd been a Boy Scout. When my son was old enough to become a Boy Scout there was no Troop 69, so we started one. I say this to let you know that you can start from the beginning and still have a great time and do a great job. The kids will forgive your mistakes (and will probably enjoy them!). Keep up your Scout spirit and you'll do fine. Take the training, read the manual, go on the campouts and the activities (hey, build your own Pinewood Derby car!) and have a good time.

If someone's agenda is more about their ego instead of about the kids, they're wrong and you're right.

Get to know your Unit Commissioner. If you don't have or haven't seen your Unit Commissioner, call your District Commissioner and ask him or her what's going on (the Council office will have your DC's number).

If someone wants to know what your Pack's or Den's or Troop's bylaws or discipline policies are, tell them "A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, ...", that all Scouts and Scouters are expected to abide by them, and that each case will be determined on a case by case basis using your best judgement at that time. No legalistic rules that kids or adults can bend. And if they don't trust your judgement and want a bunch of written policies they can game, tell them there's another Pack or Troop a few miles away they are welcome to join.

Hi Ron,

You are the MAN! What a resume in Scouting. I was a Cub Scout Scout from 1964 to 1970 off and on. I started as a Co Den Leader pack 186 in 1994 and an ASM in Troop 473 in 2000. I currently am a Den Leader in Pack 40 and ASM in Troop 472. am a member of the OA 2006, Philmont crew summer 2006. I do not know anyone who does not get a huge load of satisfaction from helping boys go through Scouting. Oh by the way out of my first den in pack 186 4 of my boys will become Eagles by this summer. My son being one of them. Proud dad for sure!
