The cheap seats are pretty full. One has the southern bigots, black and white;
northern white liberals; Jewish liberals; and the worst of the bunch, the ex-Catholics. The Commonweal types just don't get it: the days of Gene MCarthy and George Meany are long past. Those who run the Democratic Party hate the very name Catholic.

Hillary's staff tried this against Joe L. in Conn ?
We will now see at least two more years of this...
Be offensive and rude and rub raw the sores of social discontent....

Like Pelosi who supports abortion yet claims to be a good catholic ?
People shouldn't be calling themselves Catholic while not following the rules of the Church.

The media gives this strategy cover...which has been working for the DUmmies.
When the primaries are over, the Dem candidates will be in one Church or another every Sunday and their media friends will surely never point out their total hypocrisy.

Democrats -- and Edwards in particular -- have embraced the language of faith and the imperative of competing with Republicans for the support of religious voters. His wife, Elizabeth Edwards, even sits on the board of the leading organization of the religious left, Call to Renewal. But in private conversations and careful public statements today, religious Democrats said they felt sidelined by Edwards' decision to stand by his aides. The "christian" left is marginalized because, as noted, when the left speaks of religion they are normally just blowing smoke to obtain the votes of anyone with religious convictions...not out of any actual, personal convictions they REALLY have...so if the "religious left" bought a clue they'd see they're just being used by the likes of Edwards.

"As a constituency, the Christian left isn't taken all that seriously," Penalver said."
That's because they're useful idiots. they're treated w/ the same contempt that the Nazis treated their Jewish collaborators.

I don't think it's fair to say the religious left or Christian left is an oxymoron. MLK is the classic example of that, and it's been around for a long time. Now, that said, I think they're confused: they mix up the responsibilities of the church with the responsibilities of government. But that's just bad theology. It's not somehow a lie or an impossible category.

So they want them as a voting block but more like a silent partner.
