Critics of Yales decision to admit former Taliban diplomat Rahmatullah Hashemi have suggested that the ensuing controversy was partially to blame for the decrease in applications to Yale this year...
Applications to Yale for the class of 2011 decreased 9.7 percent ... While Yale administrators blamed the decline on last years record-low acceptance rate and natural year-to-year fluctuations, critics of the University have argued that high school students may have been disillusioned by Hashemis enrollment.
Hashemi took classes at Yale through the Nondegree Students Program from the summer of 2005 through the end of the 2006 academic year, gaining national attention when he was the subject of a New York Times Magazine cover story in February 2006.
After it became public, the administrations decision to admit Hashemi, 28, unleashed a storm of controversy, with Yale eventually defending its decision on the grounds that it promoted a diversity of perspectives among its student body. Critics condemned the decision to admit a former member of a group that waged war against the United States. ...
critics of the administrations decision pointed to what they termed Yales poor handling of the situation as a factor that may have disillusioned the nation about the University and diminished Yales reputation.
A 2006 Yale graduate now working on Capitol Hill said Yales decision to allow Hashemi to take classes was unconscionable considering his background.
Clint Taylor 96 launched a campaign and Weblog called NailYale a name that makes reference to the rumored Taliban practice of removing the nails of women who wear noticeable nail polish encouraging alumni to forgo donations to Yale until the Universitys decision to admit Hashemi was more fully explained.

Yale is a place that forbids ROTC from training on campus on one hand, but at the same time welcomes an unrepentant high official of one of the vilest regimes in recent history.
In 2002, Yale turned down an opportunity to admit a group of academically qualified Afghan women, but a couple of years later they admit their oppressor.
Theres something culturally wrong with a place that tolerates that sort cognitive dissonance...

Seeing that you have to dodge bullets to get to the campus maybe it's not worth the risk?
From what I understand, Yale's little pet Taliban had about a fourth grade-level education, so they threw their own academic standards out the window to admit him.
What happened to global warming? Could that be the real cause?
Now there's an oxymoron.
There's really nothing new in New Haven. Read William F. Buckley's "Man and God at Yale" (1951) to see how little has changed, except insofar as it has gotten worse.
Taliban diplomat
Now there's an oxymoron.
Terrorists can recruit at Yale and Harvard.
Our military can not.

Absolutely correct. And you are free to point this out anywhere in America, except on college campuses - where you will be shouted down, accused of hate speech, and subjected to assorted flying desserts as the price of your honesty.

The reality here is really simple and has little to do with high school students.
The conservative parents who love America have told their kids, there will be no Daddy/Mommy tuition if they go to Yale.
A friend last year told his son, who wanted to go to the Green Left University, in Humboldt, California, if he went, the kid paid for everything. The kid didn't listen and went to Humboldt, enrolled and Dad didn't deposit any money in his checking account. Suddenly the kid's checks were bouncing, and he go bounced out school.
A neighbor, who is a medical professional told his son if he went to Davis and enrolled in the liberal bs courses instead of solid pre med, he would get no financial aid. This kids funds from Dad stopped and he is back home.
18 years ago our currently recovering liberal son wanted to drive to one of the bridge protests, protest, and be arrested. I said, "Fine, we will not bail you out if you are arrested. You will have sell your car for bail, We will put your stuff in the carport and change the locks on the doors and have you arrested if you try to come in our house without permission, (learned this from the same neighbor with the kid dropping out of Davis. They did this with a druggie older daughter).
Our son didn't go and went out of state for some good higher education. He returned to our town last summer. Now he laughs when he tells this story to his nephew and niece when they threaten to run away from his brother and SIL.
Unbelievable. Thanks for the heads up... pinging the CT list now.
