Yeah, a real SOFT moron, whining like a little girl about having to find a way to look aroung Guiliani's inconvenient abortion stance, and having to be reminded by another caller of Rudy's gun control proclivities. "Oh yes, there is that."
I didn't catch his name, but he had been in as co-host before. He was real excited with the Rudy-as-heroic-god mythology in the wake of NYC 9-11. Competent, timely marshalling of administrative resources, and steady, sometimes mildly inspirational public appearances, but not much more. Yes, compared to a Chocolate Nagin, quite exemplary, but that ain't saying much.
And exactly how does one do that if Congress doesn't fund it?

Reagan was a former Governor of California, a state large enough to be a country. RR was also mentored by Barry Goldwater and Bill Buckley; he WAS somebody. Everyone knew him, even if they did not like him.
Hunter is a virtual unknown who will need huge media time; the liberal media will ignore him. How is he going to get any traction?
I think the last time a House member jumped to the White House was Benjamin Harrison.
Be realistic. It looks like the conservatives are going to get shutout of the presidential race this time.

You could probably count on your fingers and toes the number of freepers that PREFER Rudy McRomney over Hunter. But it would take a Hewlitt Packard 10 key to keep track of those who won't bother to support him becuase he's "unknown"
You nailed it. Reagan was immensely electable as shown by his national delegate count in 1976, by his countless hours of television, and by his general exposure as governor of CA. Hunter has absolutely no such background. If he is as smart as I hope he is, he will be making overtures to Rudy to try to pull Rudy further right and set himself up down the line.

Fences are not the answer! The burden must be placed on the businesses who hire illegals! Why would I want to spend millions of tax dollars on a fence when all you have to do is pass a law that fines businesses $10,000.00 for each illegal they hire. The fence garbage is just for show. Unfortunately, the republicans want cheap labor and votes, demirats want the votes. Nothing is going to happen! All the Federal Government needs to do is enforce the laws and make a few new ones! Any person that turns in an illegal alien gets a reward, any business that hires an illegal alien gets a fine! Simple as that.

I'd sure give him a hard look. But your scenario is a dream. Where Cheney to resign for any reason the 25th amendment requires a majority vote in both houses to confirm. The Dems would never confirm a Duncan Hunter.
Remember in '73 when Ford replaced Agnew; Nixon had to choose Ford because Carl Albert (the Speaker) told Nixon that Jerry was the ONLY acceptable VP; Nixon badly wanted John Conley.

Sorry. Even XOs require funding. And Nixon proved that a president can't even withhold funding from something wants, nor can a president spend on something Congress doesn't want. Ask Ronald Reagan about support for the Contras.
Will you then announce the rounding up of all 30+ million criminal illegals and have them frog marched back across the border? Youd have my vote.
