You must have skipped over the part where they said using readly available American ammo.
Guess it's too complicated for the army to shop at "Cheaper Than Dirt" (;-0

This isn't a police department dealing with a high crime area. Make no mistake--we are exactly that. The EOF and RoE demand it.

I like the old Moisin-Nagant a lot, once I got over the clunky look of it. I bought a Finnish M39 that has a very old receiver but a new barrel and stock. It is as accurate as the loads. Shooting old Hungarian and Romanian surplus steel-core ammo it is pretty good but with modern ammo it is very good. My son has a Moisin M44 carbine that is a blast (literally) to shoot but the barrel is shot out.

Clever. I suppose the bad guys will have trouble telling who is killing whom.
I imagine that a bolt-action rifle could be chambered for the AK round. This would result in superior accuracy.

Yeah ... I've never seen one of the carbine's fired but I can imagine what it must be like. Probably a lot of fun to take to the range in the evening to shoot under the lights. I head the muzzle blast alone extends about 4 feet.
Real "thunder god" type stuff.

Personally I bought bracelets for the Army and Marines both.
Got bracelets for my wife and kids. A few dog tags for our key chains, even one for the dog! Seriously, I think it's a great cause.

The special U.S. snipers have used .50-caliber long-range rifles for killing terrorists. Now, they are using the modified AK-47s to kill insurgents without a normal shot to the head. Instead, snipers are killing insurgents with shots to the heart, and creating dissension and doubt in the groups over who is behind the sniping. Wouldn't using the Dragunov (SVD) or one of the various derivatives of the AK-47, such as the Romanian PSL, which fire the same 7.62x54R round make more sense? The Iraqis are equipped with those as well, and while not as a accurate as US/coalition sniper rifles, have more ability to "reach out"?

So they are using AK's chambered for the 308, More likely the 7.62x54R, since that's a Soviet design (well actually pre-soviet Russian) and which is used in many machine guns, used by both the Iraqi army and the terrorists(as is the 7.62x39 round of the AK).
