Bear in mind that the ~2 million sales came after a full-scale media assault promoting the "poor little" girls who were "censored" for exercising their First Amendment rights. I strongly suspect that a majority of their sales came from anti-Bush folks wanting to prop the Chicks up.

Even with 2 million in sales, it pales in comparison to their first 2 albums, which sold 12 million and 8 million, respectively. The Dixie Chicks were akin to the Beatles in country music in terms of popularity and success. Now they're the Monkees.

A few years back they signed a contract with their label Sony that they had to pay back ALL promotional costs before any royalities (20%) kicked in. This album saw unprecidneted promotion and in knowing that, I would say your 400K estimate is far too generous.

FYI, being certified for 2 million, does not mean they actually sold 2 million. 2 mill certification is for albums SHIPPEdD not sold, and the certification is requested by the artist. The chicks are still a couple hundred thousand away from actually selling 2 million.

The "hee-hee" remark just showed the depth of her intelligence. I'm sure a lot of people didn't even get it (not everyone watches/watched the Simpsons). The win was just a nod to their bashing Bush and publicly saying what so many of those losers believe.

It raises questions about how album sales are accounted.

"If you take Weird Al's figures on typical royalties (*), each of the band members took home about $400,000.

I wish I could do that poorly.

(about $0.68 per album total for the band)"

No if you read the agreement which they made with their promoter they received 90% of the gross from their tour while taking the risk too. All of the canceled dates and poor attendance hit them hard. You can take the $0.68 per CD and pay off the huge debt they received form the tour. My be is a lot of red ink.

No! This is a case of liberal idiots rewarding other liberal idiots for being liberal idiots.

The word "country" has one too many syllables in this case.

Rush- 32 Years...4 meaningless rock instrumental nominations...47 million records sold worldwide...ZERO GRAMMY WINS....whew! I don't know whether to be thankful as a fan or disgusted with the entire process.

They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me. (though I understand ol' Merle had an anti-Iraq war song on his last album...he also did a song with Gretchen Wilson
called Politically Uncorrect.)

And word up to the Chicks: people not buying tickets to your concerts or your album is not suppression of freedom of speech. No FCC order came out for radio stations to not play NotReady...listeners told the stations they
weren't interested. Free market decision. You have your freedom of speech, we have our
freedom of choice. Lubbock or leave it.

The DCs should be glad we live in a country where soldiers
fight and die for our freedoms, including the right to put out whiny songs that please liberals. We could be in a country
where any music that does not praise Allah gets banned (and the musicians no doubt strung up as infidels)

Really?! I stayed up to watch the RHCP and turned it off as soon as I saw Gore. I know they toured with "Rock the Vote" and supported Kerry, so I'm shocked that AK would snub him.

Even Fat Nat seemed to acknowledge that they didn't deserve all the awards and it was really a pity party.

I've seen that on cable called "It Runs in the Family". But a better sequel is "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss". That's our favorite.
