Republican Rep. Connie Mack Blasts Joe Kennedy for Chavez Oil TV Ad
FoxNews / Rep. Mack website ^ | February 12, 2007 | unattributed

Posted on 02/13/2007 11:16:00 AM PST by prairiebreeze

WASHINGTON - A Florida congressman ripped into former Rep. Joe Kennedy for airing television commercials promoting his Citizens Energy Corp. that heap praise on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, "a sworn enemy of the United States."

In the ad, Kennedy, founder and president of Citizens Energy Corp., a nonprofit energy company, lauds Venezuela and Citgo, a Houston-based oil company owned by the Chavez government, for contributing heating oil to low income senior citizens.

"I am Joe Kennedy. Help is on the way. Heating oil at 40 percent off from our friends in Venezuela at Citgo," Kennedy says in the commercial.

In a letter dated Monday, Rep. Connie Mack wrote to Kennedy: "Venezuela's Communist President Hugo Chavez is a sworn enemy of the United States. That is why there is absolutely no excuse for you to be praising him in television commercials and media interviews for any reason whatsoever."

Mack's letter continues: "While you have gone out of your way to publicly praise Hugo Chavez, he's gone out of his way to crush the hopes and dreams of the Venezuelan people and to destabilize freedom, democracy, and the United States interests throughout the Western Hemisphere."

Mack said the partnership is not providing discount oil, but allowing Chavez a venue to "exploit his apologists in the name of public relations. Sadly, you have chosen to actively participate in his charade, even as he continues to attack the United States, our leaders, and freedom-loving people everywhere."

Joe Kennedy is a creep for multiple reasons. Get this:
Excerpt from "Shattered Faith: A Woman's Struggle to Stop the Catholic Church from Annulling Her Marriage," dust jacket: "In 1993 Sheila Rauch Kennedy received a letter from the Boston Catholic Archdiocese announcing that her former husband, Congressman Joseph Kennedy, was seeking an annulment of their marriage. If the Church granted the annulment the marriage, which had lasted twelve years, would be rendered nonexistent -- not simply ended, as was stated in the divorce decree, but invalid from the start. And their two sons would be regarded as children of an unsanctified union. Joe Kennedy needed the annulment to remarry within the Church, and he encouraged his wife to ignore the details. But stunned by the hypocrisy of the process and the betrayal of trust it involved, Kennedy was determined to defend the legitimacy of her former marriage."

Been doing some more searching on FR. Check it out;

Joe Kennedy Fires Back Letter to Florida Rep. Connie Mack Over Chavez Oil TV Ad

"If your moral indignation requires that we not accept the discount oil to distribute to our most vulnerable families, then that same high moral standard should require that you not drive your car because it, too, probably uses gasoline made from Venezuelan oil," Kennedy wrote in a letter sent to Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fla.

"Maybe the fact that you live in Florida diminishes your concern for those who have to forgo food or medicine to pay for heat or turn to dangerous heating sources to stay warm, risking their lives to brave the cold," Kennedy wrote. "If so, maybe you could advocate that they move to your district to alleviate the need to figure out ways to protect them."

LOL! Pretty snotty position from somebody who allegedly told a Hyannis mother he left paralyzed for life in a car crash 32 years ago that he is ``broke'' and won't be her financial crutch any longer

How broke can he be when he pays himself nearly $400,000 a year from the "non-profit" Citizens Energy Corp. coffers (actually, a direct subsidy from Hugo Chavez to Kennedy)?

Not if you don't fuel up at any Citgo stations.
Personally, I avoid them at all costs, so my car doesn't run on Venezuelan oil.

Exactly. Cavuto is on this and Kennedy is to be on today. Chavez donated about 4 million and we do 9 billion LIHEAP. LIHEAP is a subsidy to Kennedys and their oil co, anyway. Investigate it.

I read something about this Chavez deal a long time ago...and in the itsy bitsy teeny weenie print at the bottom of the "deal"...it says that Chavez WILL bill these people for the "real" amount of the oil in like 10 years...with interest.

I am sure this is the same type deal I read about.

Wellll...maybe. Certainly avoiding Citgo ensures that your $$ doesn't directly go to Chavez's pockets. I do the same thing BTW.

But who knows what amount of Venezulean gas is mixed into Conoco, Shell, etc...?

But, we do the best we can in not funding this S. American dictator, I agree.

Question: Do the Kennedy's have a vested interest in the oil company?

Yes, the Kennedy's own oil companiaes. The oil companies have drilled for oil in 4 American states.

The names are: Artic Oil,Kenoil Oil, and Mokeen Oil Company.

The family made millions when the oil companies struck a large deposit in the McAllen Field in Hidalgo County, TX and another large well found in Louisiana.

Ted Kennedy wrote legislation which gave tax breaks to small oil companies which includes his family's oil companies.

What's more, the family has figured out a way to largely avoid paying corporate taxes on their oil profits altogether. In 1985 the family came up with the ingenious idea: Convert their corporate oil holdings to a so-called "royalty trust". So now they don't even pay income taxes on the income from the oil companies. Nifty, huh?

Oh my gosh!!! Why aren't Republicans making commercials out of this information? And holding press conferences?

And they should add this information as well:

The Kennedy family owns 3 oil companies and Teddy-boy wrote legislation favorable to small companies so his company got huge tax breaks. Then the family put the companies into royalty trusts and they don't even pay income taxes on the income from the oil companies.

Probably afraid the press would twist it against them. Although that excuse wears thin awfully quickly.

Intersting stuff on the Kennedy oil fields. Especially Hidalgo Co.

I thought the oil industry was big and bad and horrible as far as libs are concerned. I guess Kennedy oil is good and kind and wonderfully different than anybody else's oil. Yeah, that must be it...
