6 minutes of horror

In just six minutes, 18-year-old Sulejman Talovic left a tragic path of destruction that forever changed the lives of dozens of people. "His intent was to shoot as many people as he possibly could," said Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank. Police released details Tuesday on Talovic's shooting rampage that left five people dead before off-duty Ogden police officer Ken Hammond and four Salt Lake City police officers killed him in "a shootout," Burbank said. Four other shooting victims are hospitalized. Talovic was armed with a shotgun, a .38-caliber handgun and "a backpack full of ammunition," Burbank said. Around the man's waist was a bandolier of shotgun shells.

They buried the lede. FRom about half way down in the article:

Ajka Omerovic, who said she was Talovic's aunt, visited the home Tuesday afternoon. She told the Deseret Morning News that Talovic had been "a good boy." She said the family are Muslims from Bosnia who had lived in the vicinity of Sarajevo.

Will all those who were saying yesterday that the ROP had little or nothing to do with this atrocity please take a bow. (Sarcasm off).

I won't be surprised if the MSM doesn't turn this into an anti-Mormon story, along the line of the poor Bosnian Muslim refugee felt oppressed by the anti-Muslim bias of the Mormon population in Salt Lake.

"It's always these kinds of kids," Schwam said. "It's the kids who are distraught, who have nothing to live for...who cause the most severe damage. They don't know what else to do. In their mind, they're at the end of their rope."

The islamofascist "kinds of kids." Schwam could have stopped right after "these kinds of kids" and not gone on. And why, by the way, do those who "don't know what else to do" have to kill others? Why is that some kind of "option" in Schwam's mind?

Where in the article does it state that the individual was a militant or religious zealot or terrorist? Utilizing your logic we can assume that everyone living in New Orleans is a murderer...ditto for Detroit or LA and everyone in San Francisco is gay.

Okay, here we go:

Has there been any evidence whatsoever that this is linked to his religion in any way? Maybe such evidence WILL be forthcoming, but Muslim or no Muslim, there's no proof at all that religion has anything to do with it yet. I've wanted so many times to kill people in traffic I can't count. If one day I do snap, will it say: "Catholic Terrorism Responsible For Thirty Dead On I-275"?

In 2004, there were 16,137 murders in the USofA. IOW, a whole lot of killing is going on, every day of the week.

Rather than *speculate* on the motives of this nutcase, a discussion of personal defense and situational awarenrss would be 1) more usful and 2) a better use of BW - IMO.

Good points. Look at it another way and it becomes even more impressive. According to CAIR there are about 8 million Muslims in the US today, out of a population of about 290 million. That makes two tenths of a percent Muslim.

Now look at apparently unmotivated actual and attempted mass murders here in the last four years, not including 9/11. From what I've read and the listings I've seen on other posts here on FR, it appears that well over half of those actual and attempted mass murders were perpetrated by young Muslim males. Add to that the constant preaching of jihad and mass murder as sacraments in Whabbist mosques, which, from all reports, constitute the majority of American mosques, and it becomes reasonable to conclude this was a religiously motivated, terroristic mass murder. We're also likely to see a lot more of the same, especially if we bug out of Iraq.

Yeah, don't burden the public with facts, they are too stupid to understand anyway. Meanwhile, our President and beloved Congress, are doing what's right for us by leaving the borders open and unchecked. LBJ authorized, along with Congress's approval, a massive increase in immigration quotas from the 3rd world, and here they come. Instead of a controlled, selective process it became a rout. Without control, this insane inaction will be the the death knell of this country as we know it. Many will assimilate but a bunch won't and the undesirables will slip by, the whole thing makes a complete mockery of citizenship.

People with a brain don't need reporters to lead them by the hand to reach conclusions which are self-evident.

Utilizing your logic we can assume that everyone living in New Orleans is a murderer...ditto for Detroit or LA and everyone in San Francisco is gay.

Apples and oranges. Neither Detroiters nor Louisianans are known for murdering people worldwide randomly and wholesale --- every day.
As for san Francisco, if they elect a gay mayor and militant gay supervisors routinely, it is reasonable to assume that the majority of the electorate is either gay or gay sympathizers. That's no great leap of reasoning. Sad to say but the terrorists can claim victory over you.

That's true. Equally important, if Detroiters and Louisianans had daily rallies and an education system devoted to preaching jihad and mass murder, accompanied by regularly perpetrating the same, then it would be reasonable to conclude that a Detroiter who did it was probably motivated by that ideology. After all, if a Nazi went to a Synagogue and started murdering the Jews, it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to conclude he probably did it in service of his ideology. The same's true in this case with a Muslim committing mass murder, probably in service of his "religion," which preaches and perpetrates similar crimes every day throughout the world.

This may come as a shock to you, but islam is not "just" a religion.
After studying the culture for over 40 years, it can't be any clearer, although it should take only a few months of study to see it clearly and to realize this.

The contemporary muslim culture itself keeps reminding us explicitly and implicitly today.
Read, if you have the interest, translations of "sermons" given worldwide daily, today, which makes it as clear as it needs to be for most normal people.

Most importantly, learn and grasp the concepts of umma and dar al islam in the context of the daily muslim atrocities.

According to many articles in the SL Tribune that I read this morning, not sure which one exactly, the little muslim POS of the ROP dropped out of school at 16 after passing through numerous schools. His neighbors knew the family, but never saw this kid outside. Most interviewed, didn't even know he existed.

Have you ever done any sort of risk assessment? How about the more militarized "risk assessment" process?

Given that there is a declared intent, worldwide, for muslims to commit deadly violence against "infidels", and further that this murderer was muslim, and finally that no plausible rationale for his actions - outside his being muslim - has been profferred, it is logically correct to assume that his religion was the basis for his actions.

That is not to say that compelling evidence of more mundane motives cannot be offered later, but proceeding under the assumption that this was an act of jihad is the only prudent step to take in a valid threat assessment. At this point, this isolated act warrants increased vigilance for other acts against similar soft targets - both by law enforcement and by individual citizens.

NOTE: I *DO NOT* advocate any type of revenge be exacted on anyone, but only that vigilance be the rule of the day.

Soft pedaling the possibility of jihad acts in the US is a grave disservice to those of us who would like to know whether the likelihood of random attacks on us has increased.

BTW - "What if" is not reserved to children. It plays a part in every new idea, and in every plan. "If only" is the bane of children and socialists everywhere.

Well, I must confess a level of discomfort when I find myself among rocket scientists; but here goes anyway.

The murders cited are common crimes in most large cities in the US, and include gang wars, drive-by shootings, drug turf wars, convenience-store holdups, jewelry store robberies, armored car robberies, crimes of passion, all of which have one thread in common: specifically targetted victims or someone who inadvertently gets in the way.

Stripping those away, how many of the 16,137 murders in the US of A involve randomly chosen victims?

If you are unable or unwilling to see the distinction, we live in universes of intellect and logic too disparate to have a meaningful discussion.

Have a nice day.

Muslim store owners are killed frequently in the inner city. Should those killing be called religiously motivated if the killers are born to Christians?

This guy was not yelling Allah Akbar while running around. That seems to be de reguir for the Islamaniacs.

This clearly is an exception since few killings are done by Muslims in this country. He may indeed be a terrorist but so far there is scant evidence to support that claim.
