"H.R. 1022: To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes"
Les Jones Blog ^ | February 14, 2007 | Les Jones

Posted on 02/14/2007 9:49:48 PM PST by FreedomCalls

H.R. 1022 has been introduced in committee.

From The High Road, where there's lots of discussion and political fingerpointing. Examples:

"Well, all you folks who voted for anyone but a republican now know what the next 2-10 years are going to be like. Maybe longer."

Which was countered by:

"Plus, even if it does pass, all you good Republicans have nothing to worry about because your President will veto it, right? Remember, you guys all said Bush was just playing politics when he said he would sign a new AWB. You guys don't think you are wrong now, do you? Do you?"

Yep. Bush said in the 2004 election that he would sign the AWB renewal if it came across his desk. At the time, he was confident of a Republican Congress keeping that from happening. What could possiblie go wrong? The 2006 elections went wrong, Democrats now control both houses of Congress, and Bush's words are coming back to haunt gunowners.

Still, Bush and a Republican Congress were very good for gunowners. The AWB was allowed to expire in 2004, and the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms act protects gun companies from frivolous lawsuits that were threatening to destroy them.

This renewal probably won't go through, but another one might after the next election. This is exactly why I'm only buying semi-autos between now and the end of 2008. Just in case. If anything is banned it will be semi-automatics. And if they aren't banned outright they will be regulated - as in the 1994 AWB - with regards to magazine capacities of more than 10 rounds and "evil" features like collapsible/folding stocks and flash hiders.

Hi All-

It is a miracle that Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) was even elected and has managed to remain a congresscritter. She is a one-act show and darn near the only thing she talks about is firearms and how she was impacted by the shooting of her husband and son. Her response to that criminal tragedy at the hands of a proven madman is inappropriate.

You actually believe that we are running a Republic here, don't you?

We haven't been a Republic since before the New Deal. Things are just playing out now to their logical conclusions.

Where's that reset switch at?

The left wants to take guns away from law-abiding citizens so that it can impose its fascist rule.

It is no surprise to me....I just wonder how the so called conservative southern reps that got elected will vote on this issue....Our fight against the antis will go on way past my life time.....We had man killed here in Bradenton Fla yesterday....He came home and found two perps who were breaking into his house. He confronted them with a knife and was shot and killed...To bad he did not take advantage of Florida CCW laws and then he might have stood a chance...He should have pulled back and called the cops..It is sad to see that he left a wife of 32 years....I try all the time to tell friends you do not have to be a victim....

She continues to be elected because the majority of the voters in her district (Long Island) have the same fear and loathing of guns, freedom, and the 2nd A that she does. She wasn't elected by accident. She was elected because the majority of her electorate agree with her.

> How long do those idiots think they can keep screwing with gun owners before something bad happens?

Lately, that exact thought has been crossing my mind a great deal. Almost daily, recently.

The libs are like Bugs Bunny in the Yosemite-Sam-as-a-pirate cartoon. Bugs keeps throwing lit matches down into the gunpowder storage room -- you know that, sooner or later, one of those matches is gonna cause the thing to blow. The libs keep throwing "lit matches" too.... but just because none of them caused an explosion so far, they think it'll never happen. If they keep it up, they may get a response that they didn't expect.

You can step on the neck of an armed populace for only so long. I foresee a second American Revolution coming -- not only about gun control, but so many other issues also.

Bradenton's about 30 miles north of my AO. Yes, I read about that poor fellow in the Herald-Tribune today. From the sound of it, one of the perps is related to a neighbor (where the Sheriff found the BG's car in the driveway).

This old fellow made several large tactical mistakes in engaging the bad guys, not the least of which was immediately attempting to go head-on at them with a knife. Of course, it's a helluva note to think that your average homeowner would need to benefit from tactical training in their own front yard.

One would think those Long Island citizens would eventually come to expect some work output from Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) other than breathless rants about eeeeevvvil handguns. She certainly deserves sympathy as a victim of violent crime...but her energies are utterly and completely misplaced!

It really irks me to admit this but as far as I can see our US Constitutional law is only of concern to our elected officials when it favors them or their agenda. With respect to the freedoms it spells out for us common citizens it's already become just a meaningless piece of paper. What's worse, to reinstate it to it's original purpose will require the spilling of blood. I don't mean to sound haughty but absolute and total power is the food of tyrants. Patrick Henry made two very important points in his argument favoring the second amendment. He said (paraphrased) if the gov takes control of our purse and we have no guns what are we to do, just tell them to give it back? The IRS thugs are well established.

They're New Yorkers. They're from the most left wing part of the most left wing state in the nation. They think the sun shines out of H Clinton's backside, and they think Guiliani is a conservative, and by their standards he is. Left wing socialists hate guns, hate freedom, and above all else want to impose their viewpoint on everyone else. By their standards she is working.

She certainly deserves sympathy

deserves deserved By putting herself in the political arena and going after our freedom, she forfited any sympathy she might have once been entitled to.

Same with me... I'm in New Jersey so I don't have any rights anymore.

But to tell the truth, the only reason the Democrats got congress is because they ran pro-life, pro-gun candidates that looked more like Republicans than our current presidential candidates. I don't think it's do-able legislation. I think if they shoved it down our throats it'll be the last we see of the Democrats for a while.

Buy your guns now, and don't forget to buy lots of ammo for them, because that is next on their hit list. Get it by the caseload, it's cheaper that way.

What do they have to fear?

Nothing.

Nothing at all.

As proven by the last AWB, even the sheep with pointy teeth will roll over, bleating profusely but doing nothing in opposition. They'll get creatively compliant, but compliant nonetheless.

Doesn't matter what the pols are doing, they have nothing to worry about.

Nothing ever did happen.
Nothing is happeneing.
Ergo, they don't expect anything ever will happen.
So why stop?
