The Washington Times, LLC. ^ | 15 Feb 07

"More recruits with criminal records, including felony convictions, are being allowed to join the Army and Marine Corps as the armed services cope with a dwindling pool of volunteers during wartime."...

"'Our armed forces are under incredible strain and the only way that they can fill their recruiting quotas is by lowering their standards,' said Rep. Martin T. Meehan, Massachusetts Democrat'"

People that don't believe things like this go on in an organization with hundreds of thousands of members are fooling themselves. I've been there and seen it first hand. So go F**k yourself.

What kind of unit (service, branch, location, timeframe, etc.) were you in? I was in the Army before, during and after Vietnam and I did not see what you saw. At least not on the scale you describe.

How would like to me answer that Top? That I was a flag officer in Centcom or a private on a garbage scowl in Mississippi River? How would you like me to respond? You can either believe me or not. If you were in the Army for long enough you saw plenty of strange things.

BTW all branches of the armed services have been meeting or exceeding retention and recruitment goals.

If this article is accurate then now we know how.

Thanks for the compliment, but I was never a 1SGT. I was an enlisted man, a CWO and barely a field grade officer when retired. Having served, you know it helps others know where you are coming from if you give them some idea of what you did in the military. Obviously you choose not to provide any of that information and I respect that, but it doesn't help your argument.

Like I said believe me or not. I don't have to convince anyone. I'm just discussing my experiences, and how they relate to the discussion.

"For those that threatened it on me, I replied with a brief statement. "I get out before you, and if you do anything to me, then whatever life you were thinking of going to when you get out will no longer exist."

"Our Military is being used as a mercenary force by our government. I know I was in it."

"The only difference these days between convicted felons and the average enlisted soldier, is the felons got caught. I know I spent a few years enlisted recently and there is all manner of stuff going on in the Army all the time. I saw drug dealers on post, child molesters in my unit,"

"That doesn't even get into the National Security breaches that were being covered up by some of senior enlisted and Officers."

It is interesting to read your posting history, were you in prison before or after your service, and I assume you got an honorable discharge from the (blank)right?

I was reading another thread when you you made more silly, and outrageous statements, your posts got pulled by the moderator.

Right now you have zero credibility, not very good for a guy that hasn't even been here for three weeks.

Oh, your one of those. Are you in your underwear in a dark closet too? 3 Weeks 3 years whatever. Don't feel special because you've posted on a website longer than somebody else. It's not an accomplishment worth mentioning. You can either believe me or not. If your life is so boring you have nothing better to do than research others postings - I suggest getting out more than once a month.

Have a nice day ;)

It would have been more interesting, if you had answered the questions.

I didn't say things like that don't go on, I said I don't believe you personally saw all that stuff in your unit. I think your story is bullshit and your comments are proving that.

At this point I don't even believe you were in the military.

Why should anyone on this forum believe anything anyone says? Like I said believe it or not. If you want to have a reasonable dialogue fine. If you want to sling shit go ahead butterbar. Makes no difference to me.

I'm not a Lieutenant, I haven't been for a long, long time....

There is something wrong with you. I think you are going to have a hard time here.

I was in Army Light Infantry and Military Intelligence units. I was a 35D

What was your branch and MOS?

I truly mean this, but the best senior enlisted leaders are the ones who got into some trouble and had to go see the "old man" a few times to knock some sense into them. It is hard for some to understand that but it truly does seem to work that way sometime.

I don't disagree at all. But it is different when aomeone of high standards comes in to an organization screws up (maybe not a felony, now) and then straightens up and flies right.

It's also true for officers, too. As I recall, some guy named Nimitz ran a destroyer aground as a young CO

How true. You know the U.S. is really into this one strike you are out bit. I don't know if that is really making great leaders or not. I think it makes people more "followers". Afraid to take risks, chances. I really find this ashame to be honest with you. Nimitz would never have been a hero because he would have been discharged pretty soon after his incident.

Jump School 1988.

If you were 18 series, you'd understand my reference to Light Infantry. Most 18 series enlisted come out of Light Infantry and Ranger units. In fact, 35D are tactical intell officers with combat arms units--the opposite of 'pogues'.

You'd also know officers don't get 'Good Conduct Medals'.

You also said: I saw drug dealers on post, child molesters in my unit, and generally insane people who were committed, gang activity - you ever heard of "The disciples of the lord" a black gang, even had a young LT in an effort to pay off his bills, whore his wife out to his platoon

Not in Special Ops units you didn't see any of that....

We've had wierdos come here before and try to claim they were soldiers. They all seem to claim they were "Green Beanies".

Don't claim to be something you're not. The folks here who actually served don't take it kindly.
