The Surge is Working
Self | 02/15/07 | An Old NCO

So far it looks as if the Bush surge effort in Iraq is working. All reports are coming in positive and reflect a sharp drop in violence. With this occurring, one has to wonder, what has Congress has done to aid in our nation’s effort to win? Do they seem to appear in the same light as Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf? It appears that the only thing missing is the mainstream media showing us the victory in the background of the speeches. I saw this little statement yesterday “Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged.” — President Abraham Lincoln It appears we may have wasted our votes during the last election.

I'd love for Bush to go on national TV and say that very thing! It really needs to be said because it's true!

Just one more reason to win this thing... Besides winning, of course!

It will be months before we can see whether the surge was a success. I'm glad that it has been successfull, thus far. But like McCain says, we should be prepared to do something else if the surge does not succeed, because we can't afford to lose.

By the way, the Lincoln quote appears not to be true: http://www.factcheck.org/article415.html I'm not too comfortable with executing the Democrats.

I'm hoping that vacation Mookie's taking is going to have a severe negative impact on his following. He's always portrayed by his followers as a "great man," a "hero" who "dares to stand up to the infidel invaders" or whatever. I think this move shows them what a cowardly retreater he really is.

The media isn't covering the positive aspects, the change since the surge...of course. They focus on Congress and the opposition. How will anyone know about the success, most don't seem to follow the details as we do here.

I think it's too soon to tell if the surge is working or not. Just a couple of days ago dozens were killed in a car bomb, and we've lost a bunch of helicopters.

Of course, I hope it's working. But I don't think we'll really know for several more months. A few weeks does not a trend make.

I agree wholeheartedly that congress is doing nothing to help, and much to hurt, our chances of making it work.

Mooky is in Iran to discuss further strategy with his Shia superiors. They have an over all plan to take the entire region much like what happened in the late '70's when the Shaw was exiled.

Now that the secular dictator Saddam is out of the way, the only thing standing between them and total Islamo fascist rule is the United States.

With us out of the way, they will easily kill or eliminate the weak and poorly organized Iraqi government.

I sure feel like I wasted my vote on Rick Perry (I burnt the clothespin I used to hold my nose). Any TX Freepers want to try and cheer me up?

Fortunately, he's no longer viable for future elective office. He'll be officially going to work for Merck in four years.

However, his time in service (with Merck) has begun.

i am worried there are not enough troops there...
there have been surges in the past that reduced the violence but it sprung up again. General Petraeus said he may ask for more troops, i think GWB ought to send another 20,000 to Baghdad right now!

From what I am seeing on the latest blogs, Pelosi, Murtha and the other RATs are now planning a "Slow Strangle" approach, which will defeat our effort by reducing support on a unit by unit basis.

It was kept a secret at first, but has now surfaced through internal memos that were discovered by our side.

It is an eleborate plan that is designed to choke funding from our troops from the unit level as well as from the operational level.

This is supposedly, the brain child of Murtha, since he has inside military operations experience. If this is exposed, and should be, it may blow the whole Democrat strategy of defeat out onto the open.

I certainly hope so. Our brave troops have suffered enough humiliation and betrayal as it is!

Just wait a day or two, there will be another 80 people blown to bits.

That's not the real issue. Certainly they will try like hell to disrupt the attempt to regain control.

The issue is that control is the only thing that remains to be done, in order for the political process to work effectively.

It's not a question of "will the surge work?"

It's a statement that it must, no matter what we have to do. It simply must work, or we will have chaos in this region and we will be at severe risk in the future.

Have faith.

Under the new plan, the rules of engagement have been changed, as well as the "rear support" method has been deployed.

In short, when our troops secure an area or zone, they will leave an adequate security force behind to prevent insurgents from reoccupying the area.

The necessary personnel are being moved from areas that are at low risk, into the areas that require high security. They are doing this with the people they already have on the ground. The 20,000 extra troops can come later. It will not directly effect our change in strategy for the time being. We can still carry out the plan sooner than later, which is the best approach.

The MSM will never, under any circumstances, let the American people know that. No matter what happens in Iraq, they will portray it as a defeat. Even if they have to show just one car bombing over and over and over.

what exactly is victory?
-i guess it is winning the military war first and then the political war later. if thats the goal then we certainly are on a winning path. About two weeks ago hundreds of terrorists were killed within a couple of weeks, they're dropping like flies. they keep coming because of all the propaganda video's they see and half of these are on CNN! the US ought to have an official body count of terrorists and take pics of them and post them on the net... that would discourage a fair few wannabes...
