I don't think they're blacked out. If you zoom in on the south tarmac, you can see where the tire marks where the planes turn around.

It's certainly a primitive airport, with those old Moorish walls and buildings.

"said they wanted the plane to travel to Paris"

In a post-9/11 world it should not be allowed to take off again. Every country in the region should announce plans to shoot it down if it approaches their airspace..... unless they know with some certainty that the hijackers are not jihadis.

Paris? Don't bet on it. Even the French aren't going to let a potential suicide weapon like that enter their airspace.

Thanks, but that was the headline verbatim from Reuters. (By the way, the word is spelled "lessen".)

Mauritanian plane is 'hijacked'

An Air Mauritania passenger jet has been hijacked after taking off from the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, officials there say.
Reports said it had later landed on Las Palmas, in the Spanish Canary Islands, after making a scheduled fuel stop in Western Sahara.

Police could not confirm the number of passengers on board the Boeing 737.

It was also unknown how many hijackers were involved in the incident.

Maybe a sniper can take the hijacker out and the people be freed. At least its on the ground right now.

The police officer did not say how many passengers were on board or how many hijackers were involved, but said they wanted the plane to travel to Paris.

Imagine all the white flags waving in the wind in France right now. I'll bet they've got bed sheets tied to trees and everything. After all, jihadists are their friends. It's Bush who's the terrorist, right?

(I hope it's not terrorism, though. Seriously. I hope this ends in a peaceful manner.)

When terrorists hijacked a plane from Algiers in the early nineties, the goal was to blow it up over Paris.

The French GIGN forced them to land in Marseilles and then stormed the plane.

Ain't no way the frogs are gonna let terrorists fly a plane over Paris.

God as my witness, I thought Mauritania was one of those fake countries like Freedonia, used in movies, etc.
