WASHINGTON, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A Republican congressman has vowed to fight Rep. John Murtha's Iraq troop cuts plan.
Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., the senior Republican on the Armed Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, Thursday claimed that the new plan presented by Rep. Murtha, D-Penn., a Vietnam war combat veteran, to prevent additional U.S. forces being sent to Iraq was "extremely dangerous."
"America's military strength and our deterrent capability are largely dependent upon the ability of our nation to send troops quickly in reinforcing capacities to conflicts anywhere on the globe. Congress's attempts to prohibit the movement of such troops by management policies are extremely dangerous," Hunter said in a statement.
The Murtha initiative "could stop reinforcements from arriving in time to stop major casualties in any of a number of scenarios," Hunter said.
"Further, our strength on the battlefield is also a function of sending seasoned veterans for the purpose of mentoring the new troops on the battlefield," he said.
"I said on the first day of this debate: the Iraq resolution and the new proposal to cut off troop deployments through the operation and maintenance budget are going to be seen by America's friends, America's enemies and America's troops as the first signals of retreat in the war on terrorism," Hunter said."
"I will fight any attempt to keep supplies or personnel from reaching the battlefield," he said.
Duncan Hunter, the man who eviscerated Murtha on the house floor, who stood shoulder to shoulder with RWR to see to it that missile defense became a reality, the man who bitch slapped CNN for its blatant propaganda, the man who just undressed the Dems "military expert" to reveal him to be a mindless hack, the man who says he will have a double fence built in 6 months the length of the US mexico border, the man who has stood behind Bush in the WOT without flinching, the man who speaks passionately about the need to overturn Roe v Wade, and the man who will lead the GOP back to its conservative Reaganism.
UPI should have had the courtesy to say that Hunter too was a Vietnam veteran and that he's a presidential candidate.
PING
Gloves are coming off. Maybe he'll get some deserved air time.
I'd love to see him go toe-to-toe with the Dems regarding the WoT. I might even record it incase somebody tries doing something screwy.
A slight oversite, huh? LOL
I noticed how they left that out. For the Record:
Duncan Hunter "served in Vietnam with 173rd Airborne Brigade and the 75th Army Rangers. He was awarded the Bronze Star."

There is one thing about underdogs: they are aggressive, nasty and dirty fighters even when good news comes from their chosen side.
He was on Laura Ingraham this AM, so that's a start.
leadership in the trenches
***Well said. That's the kind of executive experience we need.
I'm liking Duncan Hunter...
Hunter 2008!
Hunter/North 2008!
Hunter/Franks 2008!
Hunter/Steele 2008!
This is going to be Hunters adavantage. He still is in the House and going toe to toe with the treason party.
Doesn't Murtha realize that the troops for the reinforcement of Baghdad were on the ground before the President even announced it?
Isn't Hunter's son in the military now?
I think so. And the kind that does not suffer fools.
He's been impressive, and the blogosphere is beginning to notice.
A man after my heart. LOL
