The dad might be right. Somebody at the local mosque probably told his son to go out and kill people.

Well, sure. Allah told him to. Or was it Mohammed? I get all these false gods and prophets mixed up.

The off duty cop who confronted the moslem in the mall is a real hero. What a gutsy fellow.

Well the father might have something.
Even though he was Muslim, he was still just a very young stupid kid that could be impressed upon.
Before 9-11 I never saw Islamics in the light we see now. And I was exposed to many over the years, and most of them were not seduced by the dark side of their culture. I knew some who had escaped Iran when the Shaw fell.
I don't know if I could have ever married one, but Iranian babes can stop a clock. I just saw a few at the WoodField mall getting my hair cut 4 days ago.

I would not assume a terror attack based on what his dad says.
This poor guy is coming to grips with a terrible event, a family emergency.
It would be natural for him to place blame somewhere else. At this stage it is probably easier to imagine some outside force rather than try to face the events if his own son had planned and executed this on his own.
The kid was 18- that means that he could have bought the shotgun and ammo. The handgun, no, he had to get that through a less-than-legal channel (but kids in El Segundo do that all the time).
Let's wait and see what the investigation uncovers and what the media says about it.

The father suspects something is up and he has openly voiced his suspicions. To do that, he must have some
strong suspicions, and he probably knows more than he lets on. He doesn't want his son (and the family) to take all the blame, which is where it is currently being placed.
Likely, there is more here than meets the eye. Somebody else probably is involved in this, and has set the son up for the deed.

He was just a law abiding guy with a concealed weapon.
If we had more of them, we could stop more insane attacks.
To: Islander7
Come on dad, tell it like it is...he was such a good boy until he started hangin' out down at the local mosque...

Let's wait and see what the investigation uncovers and what the media says about it. I see two basic possibilities:
1)The kid had mental problems, people worried that he might snap, and he did -- i fthis is found to be the case, the Media would repeat this constantly.
2) The kid had contacts with al Quaeda and was considered a fanatic hater of America -- if this were found to be the case, the Media wouldn't bother to report it, because, hey, it's old news.
