I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles.

Isn't Zumbo dead yet. He must be a fossil by now.
"I say game departments should ban them from the prairies and woods."
Someone ought to tell John that SNIPER RIFLES have no place in hunting (his photo at the top of his article shows that he is using a SNIPER RIFLE) and that someone ought to take away that SNIPER RIFLE away from that old coot before he hurts someone. /heavy sarcasm
(what did I mean by "John"?)
Just one final statement.
I've been sitting here getting more and more fed up with all of this talk about these, pieces of machinery, having no legitimate sporting purpose, no legitimate hunting purpose, people, that is not the point of the second amendment!
The second amendment is not about duck hunting, and I know I'm not going to make very many friends saying this, but it's about our right, all of our right to be able to protect our selves from all of you guys up there.
And nobody's talked about that.
Dr. Suzanna Gratia, Killeen massacre survivor who watched as her parents were murdered because she obeyed Texas law and left her handgun locked in her car. Appearing before Rep Schumer's committee hearings on the assault weapons ban
Fine. I'll go hunting with an 1800s style weapon. Perhaps a 12 or 24 pounder loaded with grapeshot. Take a deer and cut firewood, all at the same time.
This is an excellent point. As a public we are so underarmed against a government that could become fascist, that even assault weapons would be largley ineffective against the military weapons of today.
I'd better go and get that Ruger .223 Ranch Rifle I saw before they're banned ......
Since the author writes for 'Outdoor Life,' the only way to get across to him is to voice your disaapproval to his employer. E-mails are nice and they're easy, but if you want to make an impression, go to the trouble of writing a paper letter and mailing it. That will definitely get their attention.
As a secondary tactic, write to their advertisers.I had a run-in with a magazine several years ago. Repeated letters to the editor and publisher got nowhere. But when I threatened to write to their advertisers they came around in a hurry.
Where?
On planet Limpwristicon?
The stainless steel model is very nice !
I saw military rifles for American citizens - as our founders intended. Lets leave recreational hunting out of this story.
Do NOT let this dirtbag's comments about those of us who used these weapons to protect his freedom go unanswered.
It ain't about hunting.
But the gun grabber's tactics of divide and get them all one at a time is working.
How about a good old fashioned punt gun that was used for duck hunting.
Would work well during the next period of urban unrest AKA riot.
Remington seems to be taking this very seriously.

ALL - Jim Zumbo in NO WAY speaks for Remington! His opinions are his own. We at Remington take our 2nd Amendment Rights extremely seriously and ourselves market and manufacturer a AR based 308 rifle. Remington Arms supports the lawful use of all firearms by their owners in whatever legal manner they choose. We at Remington feel that it is the diversity of our tastes and uses of firearms that should also be the binding element that assists us all in defending the rights granted to us by our fore fathers.
Rest assured that Remington not only does not support Jim's view, we totally disagree! I have no explanation for his perspective.
I proudly own AR's and support everyones right to do so!
What makes me sick is how quickly people on the Internet have called to boycott Remington. All Jim said was he was hunting with our people! This is normal course in our industry. How else do people think we field test? with writers.
Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars to defend your rights and how quickly the thanks is threat and boycott! Please feel Free to post that Remington does not agree with Zumbo in any way shape or form and we will assess our relationship with him accordingly.

the "relationship" should end. now.
Agreed, and when I read the last line, I think it will end very quickly and permanently.

I was wrong, BIG TIME
Someone once said that to err is human. I just erred, and made without question, the biggest blunder in my 42 years of writing hunting articles.
My blog inflamed legions of people I love most..... hunters and shooters. Obviously, when I wrote that blog, I activated my mouth before engaging my brain.
Let me explain the circumstances surrounding that blog. I was hunting coyotes, and after the hunt was over and being beat up by 60 mph winds all day, I was discussing hunting with one of the young guides. I was tired and exhausted, and I should have gone to bed early. When the guide told me that there was a "huge" following of hunters who use AR 15's and similar weapons to hunt prairies dogs, I was amazed. At that point I wrote the blog, and never thought it through.
Now then, you might not believe what I have to say, but I hope you do. How is it that Zumbo, who has been hunting for more than 50 years, is totally ignorant about these types of guns. I don't know. I shot one once at a target last year, and thought it was cool, but I never considered using one for hunting. I had absolutely no idea how vast the numbers of folks are who use them.
I never intended to be devisive, and I certainly believe in United we Stand, Divided we Fall. I've been an NRA member for 40 years, have attended 8 national NRA conventions in the last 10 years, and I'm an advisory board member for the United States Sportsmen's Alliance which actively fights anti-hunters and animal rights groups for hunter's rights.
What really bothers me are some of the unpatriotic comments leveled at me. I fly the flag 365 days a year in my front yard. Last year, through an essay contest, I hosted a soldier wounded in Iraq to a free hunt in Botswana. This year, through another essay contest, I'm taking two more soldiers on a free moose and elk hunt.
When I started blogging, I was told to write my thoughts, expressing my own opinion. The offensive blog I wrote was MY opinion, and no one else's. None of the companies that I deal with share that opinion, nor were they aware of what I had written until this firestorm started.
Believe it or not, I'm your best friend if you're a hunter or shooter, though it might not seem that way. I simply screwed up. And, to show that I'm sincere about this, I just talked to Ted Nugent, who everyone knows, and is a Board member of the NRA. Ted is extremely active with charities concerning our wounded military, and though he's known as a bowhunter, Ted has no problem with AR 15's and similar firearms. My sincerity stems from the fact that Ted and I are planning a hunt using AR 15's. I intend to learn all I can about them, and again, I'm sorry for inserting my foot in my mouth.
Jim Zumbo
No, I prefer the traditional 3 mile range of the heavy guns.
bookmark to read and get mad over later.
Nice of him to admit he was wrong.
I believe he feels that way too.
I'm also pretty sure he'd sell out anyone else's gun ownership rights to keep his own.
No more remington for me.
No, they aren't.
If they were taking it seriously, they wouldn't still be sponsoring the piece with their ad at the top of the page.
Don't be sucked in by their self-serving statements. Look for action. If they haven't bothered to pull their support for the site, they aren't serious in their statements.
Remington should end any and all association with this Zumbo - Dumbo idiot.
Zumbo is getting pasted BIG TIME (and deservedly so) on both his original blog post and his apology post. His apology is not being accepted.
If I rememeber correctly, David E. Petzal of Field and Stream made a similar statement about 12 years ago.
He also ended up "eating crow" for it.
It seems that Mr. Zumbo has realized the error of his utterly clueless comments ie the unleashing of a near global thermonuclear sh*tstorm complete with calls for boycotts of Outdoor Life & Remington Firearms for advertising with them seems to had a rather sobering effect. We shall see what develops.
Now that's a HELL of an Idea !!!(8*>
In the event of such circumstances the idea would be to not fight the military but the civillian govt. literally make it impossible to govern due to losses/fear among the paper shuffler class.
Zumbo has had quite a wake up call.
.
Remington is shocked and disappointed by the comments of Jim Zumbo which have been widely circulated on the web. These comments do not reflect either my own feelings or those of my company!
Accordingly we are severing all business ties with Mr Zumbo and any of his companies effective immediately and will make a formal release tomorrow to this effect.
We appreciate the passionate support of our right to bear arm arms by all in the shooting sports.
Sincerely
Tommy Millner CEO
Yes they do.
See Post 35 above.
Zumbo is gone.
BTTT
I posted my #6 post to their web site!

Anything this well written bears repeating!
Man! That was a mea culpa to beat ALL mea culpas!!
LOL!
I found it.
Last name change do to marraige!
Here's the video of Suzanne Hupp testifying before congress.

Thanks very much. A great video!
Schumer is a doctrinaire Marxist.............for everybody BUT himself......because somebody has got to lead the peasants(us).
Just like Hillary.
"Statement from Outdoor Life
Due to the controversy surrounding Jim Zumbos recent postings, Outdoor Life has decided to discontinue the Hunting With Zumbo blog for the time being. Outdoor Life has always been, and will always be, a steadfast supporter of our Second Amendment rights, which do not make distinctions based on the looks of the firearms we choose to own, shoot and take hunting. Please direct any comments you have to OLletters@time4.com."
It appears that Zumbo's mea culpa was a day late, and a dollar short : )
Interestingly enough, that video of Stepanie Huff testifying before congress, that is on washingtonceasefire website shows as being edited today. Now it's only about 5 seconds long and only says, "Not only do I not represent the NRA, I am not a member"....then it cuts out.....ha....caught with their pants down.
Suzanne Hupp....sorry
